Millonarios rides two-game winning streak into El Campín showdown with Internacional de Bogotá
The club arrives on the back of two straight wins and sits third in the standings, right in the mix for a Copa Sudamericana spot.
Two wins in a row change the mood in any locker room, and Millonarios is no exception. El Embajador comes into matchday 8 of the Liga BetPlay full of confidence after routing, well, after beating Llaneros with authority, 2-0 in Villavicencio, a match that opened up early when the home side was reduced to ten men in just the 4th minute. Francisco Chaverra and Andrey Estupiñán scored the goals and gave Fabian Bustos exactly what every coach needs at the start of a new campaign: momentum.
That result carried real weight in the standings. Millonarios climbed all the way up to third place and is now starting to eye a Conmebol Sudamericana berth through the reclassification table, something that seemed far off just a couple of weeks ago. Riding that wave, the team returns home to El Campin to take on Internacional de Bogota this Sunday, August 30, kicking off at 6:15 p.m. Colombia time.
Could there be a better setup for adding more points? Playing at home, with the crowd behind them and coming off back to back wins, tends to be the perfect recipe for a team settling into the upper half of the table. Internacional, for its part, isn't showing up to hand anything over: it will be looking to spring an upset against one of the sides in the best form this second half of the FPC season.
Bustos' call-ups
The Argentine coach named his list of 21 players without major surprises, hinting that he's still hoping for a new signing before the transfer window closes. In goal will be Burrai and Aguirre, while the back line includes Llinas, Banguero, Barreiro, Mosquera, Martin, Uparela, Guerrero and Valencia.
In midfield, Bustos can call on David M. Silva, Quintero, Ruiz, Urena, Garcia, Del Castillo and Souza, a group with enough variety to control the tempo of the match and cause problems between the lines. Up front will be the same names that have been delivering results: Castro, Estupinan, Angulo and Chaverra, the latter having scored one of the goals in Villavicencio and currently in good form in front of goal.
The plan for Millonarios is clear: ride this wave of confidence, keep pace, and continue pushing for a spot in international competition, something that looked complicated in the opening weeks and is now back within reach thanks to these two consecutive results.
