Millonarios and Deportivo Cali Meet at El Campín in a Bogotá Clash Rescheduled by the Earthquake, Both Sides in Need

The earthquake on August 10 forced this match to be postponed, but the crowded Liga BetPlay schedule brings it back right when both sides need it most. The "Vintage Clásico" arrives at an awkward moment for both clubs, so there isn't much room for historical nostalgia here: this is, above all, a match born of necessity.

Gamero, racing against the clock

At Millonarios, the priority is putting the pieces back together. Following Fabián Bustos' departure on September 1, the team was handed over to interim boss Omar Rodríguez, a stretch that included a painful 3-2 loss to Santa Fe in the Bogotá derby. With Alberto Gamero back in charge, the goal is to stop the bleeding as soon as possible. His return debut ended in a 1-1 draw on the road against Deportivo Pereira, and now comes his first test at home in this second stint leading the blue side. He has yet to win a match since coming back, and El Campín offers the perfect stage to break that streak.

Leonardo Castro looks like one of the safest bets to make that happen. The forward scored in that very draw against Pereira and, alongside Rodrigo Contreras, is carrying much of the team's offensive weight while Gamero finishes installing his system.

Dudamel, on thin ice

While Millonarios is regrouping, Deportivo Cali is under outright pressure. The Valle del Cauca club sits outside the top eight and has gone three straight games without a win in the league, with its last league triumph coming in a 2-0 win over Deportivo Pasto. On top of that, the team was eliminated from the Copa BetPlay after a 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Atlético Nacional, a blow that has left the mood around Palmaseca even more tense regarding Rafael Dudamel's future.

Another loss, especially in Bogotá, could speed up an exit that is already being whispered about among the Cali faithful. Steven Rodríguez, who scored in that win over Pasto, is one of the few players arriving with his confidence intact and looks set to be the visitors' main offensive threat.

The most recent meeting between these two sides doesn't offer much to go on: a scoreless draw at Palmaseca. This time, neither team looks like it can settle for a single point. For Gamero, it's about kicking off a run of wins. For Dudamel, it's about stopping a slide that's starting to weigh more than he can afford.
