Musiala reveals he was diagnosed with treatable absence seizures linked to neurological condition

Eight minutes. That was all Jamal Musiala lasted on the field after coming on as a substitute in Bayern Munich's friendly against Heidenheim. And there it was again, the same scare: the midfielder collapsed in the middle of the match, just four days after suffering an almost identical episode against RB Leipzig.

Two collapses in under a week are too many to brush aside, and Musiala knows it. That's why he decided to speak up himself, without waiting for rumors to spiral, explaining on his Instagram account exactly what's going on with him.

The 23-year-old revealed he had been diagnosed with what he described as "treatable absence seizures," a condition stemming from a neurological disfunction that can trigger brief episodes like the ones seen against Leipzig and Heidenheim.

Musiala went further, trying to take some of the dramatic edge off the situation. As he explained, these kinds of episodes are now part of his routine and, according to the specialists monitoring him, do not pose any added long-term risk to his health.

The club knew beforehand

The obvious question came up after Tuesday's match: why did Musiala play again just days after collapsing against Leipzig? It was put directly to Max Eberl, Bayern's sporting director, who preferred not to get ahead of the player's own words but made clear the club wasn't acting in the dark: "we already knew and we're aware of the situation," he answered. Musiala also asked for privacy on the matter, making it clear he'd rather handle it behind closed doors, together with his inner circle, the club and the medical staff, rather than turn it into an ongoing public debate.

This isn't the first time the German midfielder has gone through a rough physical stretch. Last summer he suffered a broken leg during Bayern's Club World Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain, an injury that kept him off the field and from which he only returned to Bundesliga action in early 2026.

Musiala had been a key piece for the German national team, coached by Julian Nagelsmann, at the last World Cup, a tournament in which Germany was surprisingly eliminated in the round of 32 by Paraguay. Now, with medical backing and confidence in his recovery, the player makes clear his priority remains the same as always: to get back to enjoying soccer as normal.
