Musiala collapses in Bayern's friendly against Leipzig but walks off under his own power

The scare came just as the clock was ticking toward full time. Jamal Musiala went down in the middle of the pitch during the friendly between Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig, and for a few seconds the match itself became irrelevant. The score didn't matter: all that counted in that moment was seeing the German get back up.

It happened just before the final whistle. Musiala, 23, hit the ground and immediately set off alarm bells among his own teammates, who called for medical staff right away. Bayern's medical team attended to the player on the field until one of them gave a thumbs up that eased the tension in the stands and on the bench.

Musiala ended up walking off the field on his own, needing neither a stretcher nor help down the stairs to the locker room tunnel. Still, according to the German news agency DPA, he looked visibly dazed as he left.

Bayern didn't offer much explanation that Saturday, but hours later a member of the club's sporting board wanted to send a reassuring message.

Nothing has been confirmed about what caused the collapse. One possibility being floated, though without official confirmation, has to do with the heat: temperatures in Munich were above 30 degrees Celsius (86°F) at that hour, conditions that can take a toll even on elite athletes. On Sunday, the club still hadn't provided any further updates on Musiala's condition.

A recent comeback after a serious injury

The fact that Musiala's name is once again causing concern carries extra weight given what he went through just a few months ago. The midfielder suffered a broken leg last summer, during Bayern's Club World Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain, an injury that sidelined him for several months. He'd only just returned to Bundesliga action in early 2026.

Musiala was also a key piece for the German national team at the 2026 World Cup, a tournament in which Julian Nagelsmann's side was surprisingly eliminated in the round of 32 by Paraguay. With that recent injury history in mind, any warning sign involving the player is being watched more closely than usual, and for now Bayern fans can only wait for more concrete news on his recovery.
