Nashville SC shows no mercy, routs FC Cincinnati 4-0 in MLS

Four goals, zero complaints, and a rout that kept growing as the clock ran out on FC Cincinnati. Nashville SC put together a convincing 4-0 win at GEODIS Park, in an MLS match that started tight and ended up a walk in the park, with two goals in stoppage time rounding out the score.

The first half brought dominance with a few wrinkles: Cincinnati had its moments through Evander, who tried his luck from outside the box and later rattled the crossbar with a free kick early in the second half, but it was Nashville that broke through before the break. In the 42nd minute, Sam Surridge rose for a header right in front of goal, finishing off a Cristian Espinoza cross to make it 1-0 at halftime.

The second half opened and the game was decided in a hurry. In the 53rd minute, a well-worked counterattack found its way to Hany Mukhtar, who finished with his left foot from the center of the box after a pass from Elias Saad, making it 2-0. Cincinnati tried to answer: Ayoub Jabbari and Evander created danger on a few set pieces, with shots that Nashville managed to handle without any real scares.

The finish in stoppage time

With the match already all but settled, Nashville pushed the lead further out late on. Bryan Acosta, who had come on off the bench, fired a right-footed strike from outside the box in the 88th minute that snuck in by the post off a well-taken Mukhtar free kick. Stoppage time ran long, with the fourth official signaling ten additional minutes, and that's when another substitute made his mark: Ahmed Qasem finished left-footed from the center of the box in the 95th minute to make it a final 4-0, set up by Reed Baker-Whiting.

The numbers tell the story of a much closer game than the scoreline suggests. Nashville held only a slight edge in possession and took more shots overall, but Cincinnati actually had more shots on target:

The final result ended up far more lopsided than we anticipated, though the underlying trend, a home win in a tight match, did hold up in substance, even if the final margin didn't reflect it.
