Palmeiras and Liga de Quito know each other all too well, and this time the reunion comes in the quarterfinals of the CONMEBOL Libertadores. The Verdão arrives as one of the top title contenders, right up there with Flamengo, but they know this matchup won't be a walk in the park. Standing in their way is a team that's given them plenty of headaches before, and with the return leg set for the altitude of Quito, the mission in Sao Paulo is clear: build a big enough lead to avoid any nervy moments two weeks from now.

For Liga de Quito, though, this match carries a taste of revenge. Last year the albos made it all the way to the semifinals and now look to recapture that level of form, though the recent head to head doesn't favor them. The last time the two sides met, on October 30, 2025, Palmeiras thrashed them 4-0 at Allianz Parque on their way to that year's final. Their ticket to these quarterfinals came in the most dramatic way possible, beating Mirassol on penalties, the kind of result that tends to leave a mark on a locker room, for better or worse.
