Paris FC stuns Monaco with Sinayoko brace to win 3-1
With less possession but far more cutting edge, Paris FC got past Monaco thanks to a Sinayoko brace and a goal from Pagis.

Paris FC hit Lassine Sinayoko with a brace of goals in just six minutes, and that was enough to flip the night against Monaco. The final score was 3-1 at the Stade Jean Bouin in Ligue 1, in a match the home side dominated with a sharpness that neither the possession numbers nor the pre-match forecast had suggested.
Before kickoff, the preview actually favored Monaco: our projection gave the visitors a 39% chance of winning, against 33% for Paris FC and 28% for a draw, with expected goals of 1.35 for the home side and 1.5 for the away team. The pitch told a different story.
Two blows before halftime
The match was largely decided in the first half. In the 37th minute, Sinayoko struck a right-footed shot from the center of the box, low into the left corner, after an assist from Maxime Lopez, to make it 1-0. Barely six minutes later, in the 43rd minute, Sinayoko struck again: this time finishing with his right foot from the center of the box, set up by a through ball from Moses Simon, for the 2-0 scoreline at the break.
Monaco found their goal in the second half. In the 64th minute, Folarin Balogun tapped in with his left foot from close range, low into the left corner, off a cross from Vanderson, making it 2-1 and injecting some tension into the result. But Paris FC answered quickly: in the 73rd minute, Pablo Pagis struck a right-footed shot from the center of the box, also low into the left corner, assisted by Sinayoko himself, to seal the final 3-1. The rest of the match had chances for both sides (Balogun came close to a brace of his own more than once), but the scoreboard did not move again.
What the numbers say
Monaco controlled the ball more and completed more passes, but Paris FC was vastly more efficient in front of goal.
| Stat | Paris FC | Monaco |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 44.4 | 55.6 |
| Shots | 19 | 9 |
| Shots on target | 10 | 2 |
| Corners | 3 | 2 |
| Passes | 512 | 653 |
| Fouls committed | 13 | 15 |
The estimated xG generated in the match, calculated from the shots taken, backs that up: 2.35 for Paris FC against just 0.67 for Monaco. With only two shots on target all night, Monaco never managed to generate the volume of danger that their grip on the ball seemed to promise.
What the result means in the standings
With this result, Paris FC stays in fourth place with 17 points from 9 games played (5 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses), while Monaco sits sixth with 15 points, also from 9 games (4 wins, 3 draws, 2 losses). The gap between the two sides in the table is just 2 points, something that tonight's scoreline did not reflect at all on the pitch.
What stands out from this matchday is the image of a Paris FC side that, despite having less of the ball, was far more clinical, with Sinayoko emerging as the key figure thanks to his brace, plus Pagis's contribution to put the game away. Monaco, for their part, had control of the game but not the finishing touch needed to capitalize on it, something both the final score and the match's xG numbers confirm.
