PSG looks to bounce back from Lille draw in Ligue 1 matchday two
Luis Enrique wants his team, the reigning Champions League winner, to start showing its class early in the French league.
Drawing on opening day is not part of the plan for a team that just won the Champions League. That's why this Friday, August 28, PSG has a marked date on the calendar: a trip to face Lille at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy for matchday two of the 2026/2027 Ligue 1 season, looking to put its early stumble behind it.
Luis Enrique's side opened the campaign with a draw against Rennes, a result salvaged only by a goal from Ferran Torres. It wasn't the start a reigning champion hoping to set itself apart early in the season had in mind. Now PSG faces a rival that's no pushover: Lille comes off a road win over Angers and wants to prove it can be one of the teams stirring things up near the top of the table all season long.
The recent head-to-head record clearly favors the Parisians. The last Ligue 1 meeting between the two sides, played on January 16 of this year, ended in a 3-0 rout for PSG, with a brace from Ousmane Dembele and a goal from Bradley Barcola. That history carries some weight, though soccer has a habit of not repeating itself once circumstances change.
The names who will set the tone of the match
In the home goal will be Berke Ozer, with Tiago Santos and Basar Onal anchoring the back line. In midfield, Nabil Bentaleb and Ethan Mbappe will be tasked with holding things together, while up top the experience falls to Olivier Giroud, always dangerous inside the box.
On the other side, Matvey Safonov will guard the Paris goal, backed by Marquinhos and Willian Pacho. The midfield partnership will be made up of Joao Neves and Vitinha, two players who have become indispensable to Luis Enrique's setup. And up front, an exciting trio: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue and Ferran Torres, the latter carrying the extra confidence of having scored the goal that spared the champions their first loss.
Will PSG's attacking firepower be enough to get past a Lille side riding high off its opening win? The match can be streamed live via the Disney+ Premium Plan for South America, with kickoff at 3:45 p.m. in Argentina and Uruguay, 2:45 p.m. in Chile and 1:45 p.m. in Ecuador, Colombia and Peru.
