PSG signs Luis Enrique through 2030 after back-to-back Champions League titles
The Asturian coach has extended his contract, and the club has also tied down several key players in its project.
When a club has just won its first Champions League, the natural move is to lock down the coach who delivered it. That is exactly what PSG has done with Luis Enrique: a new contract through 2030.
The announcement came on an otherwise ordinary Friday, just before the team took the field against Monaco in Ligue 1. The 56 year old Asturian coach had been under contract through next summer, but Paris wasn't willing to even entertain the idea of letting him go. With good reason: under his direction, PSG has won two straight Champions League titles and added three Ligue 1 crowns.
It's worth remembering where Luis Enrique came from. Before landing in the French capital, he had already lifted a European Cup with Barcelona and later took charge of the Spanish national team. But it was at PSG where he finally settled an old debt for the club: the goal it chased for years through big money signings was finally achieved with him on the bench.
Not just the coach: the squad gets locked in too
Luis Enrique's renewal didn't arrive alone. The Paris club used the same day to announce contract extensions for several players who are now important pieces of the project. Joao Neves, Lucas Beraldo, Senny Mayulu and Willian Pacho signed new deals through 2031, while Fabian Ruiz extended his through 2028.
The message is clear: PSG doesn't just want to keep its coach, it wants to lock in the core group of players who have been with him through this golden stretch. Young names like Neves and Mayulu, alongside established players like Pacho and Fabian Ruiz, form a backbone the Paris club is looking to build on over time, rather than rebuild every couple of seasons the way it used to.
All of this was made official ahead of a match, not at a separate press conference or some event staged for the occasion. It's almost as if Paris now takes it for granted that good news arrives on its own these days, one piece after another, while the team just goes about its normal schedule.
With this extension, Luis Enrique secures the continuity to try for something that keeps getting harder in modern soccer: stacking success after success without the project falling apart. PSG already has the challenge of defending its European crown on the table, and now it will do so with the same coach and much of the same cast of players who won it in the first place.
