Who's won what in Argentine soccer: from clubs still waiting for a title to the ones that keep piling up trophies
Belgrano, Platense and Independiente Rivadavia claimed their first-ever titles while Aldosivi, Talleres and Tigre are still chasing theirs in the top flight.

There's something almost hypnotic about scrolling through the list of Argentine soccer champions: clubs that haven't lifted a trophy in decades sit right alongside others that only felt that sensation for the first time in the last few months. The Liga Profesional has changed its name and format countless times over more than a century, but the hunger for a title remains the same for everyone. A team-by-team look turns up some very different snapshots.
The ones who've never tasted title glory
Maybe the most striking fact is just how many top-flight clubs still don't know what it feels like to be crowned Primera División champions. Aldosivi, Barracas Central, Central Córdoba (SdE), Defensa y Justicia, Deportivo Riestra, Estudiantes de Río Cuarto, Gimnasia de Mendoza, Instituto de Córdoba, Sarmiento de Junín, Talleres de Córdoba, Tigre and Unión de Santa Fe make up that group. That said, several of them have found consolation elsewhere: Defensa y Justicia keeps the CONMEBOL Sudamericana and the 2020 Recopa in its trophy case, Central Córdoba lifted the 2024 Copa Argentina, Talleres claimed the 2023 Supercopa Internacional and Tigre won the 2019 Copa de la Superliga. Atlético Tucumán has also never won Primera, though it does have one curious credential: the 1959-1960 Copa Campeonato de Campeones.
That's exactly where the freshest stories show up. Belgrano de Córdoba ended an extremely long wait and celebrated its first Primera División title ever with the 2026 Torneo Apertura. Independiente Rivadavia, the Mendoza club known as La Lepra, went through something similar, winning the 2025 Copa Argentina on penalties against Argentinos Juniors to land its first top-flight title. And Platense joined that list of first-timers by capturing its first Primera title with the 2025 Torneo Apertura.
The big clubs: caught between waiting and staying relevant
On the other side are the clubs with history, some of them nursing droughts that already sting. Independiente hasn't lifted the Primera trophy since the 2002 Apertura, though it later added the Sudamericana in 2010 and 2017 and the Suruga Bank in 2018. Huracán has been waiting since the 1973 Metropolitano, though in 2014 it did get to win the Copa Argentina and the Supercopa Argentina, and in 2015 it lost a South American final. San Lorenzo hasn't been domestic champion since the 2013 Torneo Inicial either, with the 2015 Supercopa as its most recent joy. Newell's Old Boys' last title came in the 2013 Torneo Final, and Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata's in the 1993 Copa Centenario. Argentinos Juniors, for its part, is still waiting to repeat what it did in the 2010 Clausura, and Banfield still looks back fondly on its only title, the 2009 Apertura.
On the flip side, the usual suspects keep adding to their haul. Boca Juniors last won the Liga Profesional in 2022. River Plate did the same in 2023, also picking up that year's Supercopa Argentina. Racing was crowned league champion in 2025 as the team with the most points in the annual table, then claimed the 2026 Supercopa Internacional by beating Estudiantes 3-1. Vélez won the 2024 Liga Profesional and added that year's Supercopa Argentina and Supercopa Internacional. Estudiantes de La Plata celebrated the 2025 Trofeo de Campeones, while Rosario Central and Lanús are living through a strong international stretch: Rosario Central won the 2025 CONMEBOL Sudamericana and the 2026 Recopa, and Lanús keeps building on its 2016 domestic titles with a growing footprint across the region.
It won its first Primera División title after beating Argentinos Juniors on penalties.Staff
