Real Salt Lake and LAFC Share the Points in a Wild 2-2 Thriller

Four goals in 74 minutes and a draw that, given what unfolded, almost feels like too little. Real Salt Lake and Los Angeles Football Club played out a 2-2 at America First Field in an MLS match that was decided by defensive details rather than any shortage of attacking ideas, since both boxes saw plenty of those.

The game came out of the gates fast and never let up. In the 13th minute, Denis Bouanga showed up on the left side of the box and finished with his right foot into the top corner after a counterattack built by Son Heung-Min. Barely four minutes later, Real Salt Lake answered back: Saba Lobjanidze poked one in low, just inside the left post, to make it 1-1 in the 17th minute. The home side then had clear chances to go ahead, with shots from Juan Manuel Sanabria and Lobjanidze himself grazing the frame, but it was LAFC who struck again before halftime: another counterattack, again the Bouanga-Son connection, this time with Bouanga turning provider and Son finishing left-footed through the middle of the goal in the 37th minute to make it 1-2, the score at the break.

The Equalizer and a Back-and-Forth Second Half

The second half kept up the same breakneck pace. LAFC created the clearer chances through Tyler Boyd and Nkosi Tafari, who tested Rafael Cabral on several occasions, while Real Salt Lake kept pushing down the flanks with Diego Luna and Luca Moisa. The equalizer came in the 74th minute: after a Noel Caliskan shot was blocked and a follow-up from Aiden Hezarkhani was saved, Caliskan himself pounced on the rebound from close range and finished through the middle of the goal to make it a final 2-2. Neither side found the goal that would have broken the deadlock in the closing stretch, even though Son Heung-Min and Diego Luna both had chances in stoppage time.
