Santa Fe vs. America de Cali Halted After Fans Storm the Field in the 33rd Minute at El Campin
Hundreds of fans stormed the field at El Campin following clashes in the stands, forcing players off the pitch.
The scoreboard still read 0-0 and the clock had barely ticked past the 33rd minute when the soccer game became an afterthought. What began as shouting matches between sections of the crowd at El Campin ended with fans on the field of play and players sprinting toward the locker rooms for safety.
The match between Independiente Santa Fe and America de Cali, part of matchday 6 of the 2026-II Liga BetPlay, had to be stopped cold because of incidents involving fans from both clubs. It all started in the stands, with clashes between groups of supporters that escalated within minutes until the fighting spilled onto the pitch.
That's when things got truly serious. Hundreds of people flooded the field, and for several minutes the safety of players, coaching staff and everyone else inside the stadium was in real danger. This wasn't a case of a couple of stray fans hopping the railing: it was a full-blown surge that forced the players off the field while authorities tried, somehow, to restore order in the stands.
Police Had to Step In
Police officers moved in to contain the groups of fans and disperse those still carrying out acts of vandalism, both inside and outside the stadium. Faced with that scene, referee Alejandro Moncada had no choice but to suspend the match in the 33rd minute, with the teams tied 0-0.
Players and staff from both teams stayed in the locker rooms while authorities worked to bring the situation in the stands under control. It wasn't settled in a few minutes: the tension lingered for quite a while before there was any real talk of guarantees to continue the game.
Eventually, with security restored inside the stadium, the match resumed at 7:37 p.m. at El Campin, once authorities gave the green light for Santa Fe and America to return to the pitch.
The matter now moves to Dimayor and the relevant authorities, who will need to determine responsibility and decide what sanctions will follow the unrest. Episodes like this one again bring up an issue that is nothing new in Colombian soccer: fan violence that, every so often, ends up overshadowing whatever happens on the field.
