Santa Fe puts Sudamericana exit behind them, travels to face Alianza in Liga BetPlay

The cardenales look to bounce back after being knocked out by Vasco da Gama and take on an Alianza side riding high on two straight wins.

Still nursing the sting of their Sudamericana exit, Santa Fe are shifting their attention elsewhere. On Saturday, September 19, they travel to Valledupar to take on Alianza at Estadio Armando Maestre, in a matchday 11 clash in the Liga BetPlay that kicks off at 4:05 p.m. and will be broadcast live on WIN.

For the cardenales, the CONMEBOL Sudamericana quarterfinal tie against Vasco da Gama left a lasting sting. A lack of finishing cost them dearly, and head coach Pablo Repetto held nothing back when breaking down what went wrong in the series.

We should have scored a goal, and that cost us because we were behind on the road. The second goal was the killer for the hopes we had.Pablo Repetto

With the door to continental competition now shut, Santa Fe is pouring all its energy into two domestic fronts: the league and the Copa Colombia. Right now, that means a trip that, on paper, should be manageable. Alianza sits in 15th place in the standings with just two wins in nine matches played, a shaky record that stands in contrast to the momentum the home side has built up in recent weeks.

The names who could decide the match

Alianza arrives with spirits high thanks to Nahuel Bustos, who scored the winner in a 1-0 victory over Deportes Tolima in Bogota last matchday. The forward has become the team's go-to attacking threat right when a confidence boost was most needed.

On the other side, Santa Fe has its own recent hero: Deinner Quiñones sealed a 2-1 road win over Chico, a result that keeps the cardenales among the top spots in the standings.

How both teams arrive

Santa Fe sits in seventh place with 13 points, though their form away from home still leaves something to be desired: one draw and one loss, with two goals scored and three allowed on the road. Alianza, meanwhile, arrives with newfound confidence after stringing together two straight wins, a run that pushed them up to that 15th spot with eight points, leaving an inconsistent stretch behind them.

The recent head-to-head history between the two sides doesn't offer much help in predicting a clear winner. The last meeting ended 1-1, on March 14, 2026, with goals from Omar Fernandez and Yeiner Londono splitting the points.

With Santa Fe needing to rediscover its scoring touch away from home and Alianza looking to extend its good run on a field that's starting to feel familiar, the match at the Armando Maestre has all the makings of more than just a routine matchday 11 fixture.
