Silvera earns his first Clasico win with Nacional in 1-0 victory over Penarol

Some wins just feel different, and this was one of those for Maximiliano Silvera. The forward took to social media the moment the final whistle blew to celebrate something that had never happened to him before in a Clasico: winning it while wearing Nacional's jersey.

Tricolor beat Penarol 1-0 this Sunday at the Campeon del Siglo stadium, in a matchday clash from the 2026 Torneo Clausura. The only goal of the match came from Francisco Calvo in the 24th minute, and it was enough to send the three points home with the Bolso from the black and yellow's own ground.

Silvera started on the bench, but he didn't stay there long: he came on in the 14th minute after an injury to Maximiliano Gomez and ended up playing almost the entire second half, until the 77th minute. And even though he wasn't the one who scored, he was still at the center of something notable: this was his 15th Clasico between Penarol and Nacional, and the first one he's won while playing for the Bolso.

The number carries some weight when you look back at his history in the Uruguayan Clasico. Of those 15 matches, 12 came while wearing black and yellow and just 3 with Nacional, the club he joined at the start of this year. With Penarol, his record had been one win, six draws and five losses, plus three goals scored against Tricolor, including that spectacular bicycle kick on his debut, on January 17, 2024, at Estadio Centenario.

That combination, so many Clasicos played on both sides and not a single win with Nacional until now, adds extra weight to Sunday's result. After the final whistle, the forward went straight to share what he was feeling.

A road that went both ways

Silvera's time at Penarol left some curious marks. He was the first player to score Clasico goals against Nacional in three different stadiums: Gran Parque Central, Campeon del Siglo and Centenario, all during 2025. That same year, he had also been one of Carbonero's standout players in the 3-0 win at Campeon del Siglo, both for his attacking play and his defensive work.

But Uruguayan soccer has a way of turning things around: the forward who once stood as a symbol on one side of the rivalry ended up switching sides in January of this year, when Nacional announced him as a new signing. His debut with Tricolor came in the 2026 Supercopa Uruguaya, coming on off the bench.

Since then he had played two more Clasicos without tasting victory: the Supercopa ended up decided on penalties in Penarol's favor, and the March Apertura clash also went to Manya. It was only on his third try, this Sunday at Campeon del Siglo, that Silvera finally got to celebrate a Clasico win wearing the jersey he now defends.
