Sport Boys aims to end 19-year winless streak against Sporting Cristal in Callao
La Misilera hasn't beaten the celeste squad since the 2007 Clausura, and gets a shot to change that at home this Sunday.

Nineteen years. That's how long Sport Boys has gone without beating Sporting Cristal, a drought that carries more weight than a simple stat at this point. This Sunday, the club has a chance to snap it at home, with fans behind them, in a venue that seemed out of reach just days ago.
The match, part of matchday 7 of the Clausura, will be played at Estadio Miguel Grau in Callao this Sunday, August 30, pending official confirmation from Liga 1. The game was originally slated for Villa El Salvador, but the pink squad's strong form sparked a push from fans demanding the team play on its own turf. The request found an audience.
Everything cleared up once the Callao Regional Government agreed to reschedule the "Chimpunazo" concert, originally planned for August 29 at that same venue, moving it to Saturday, September 5. With the field now open, Sport Boys wasted no time sending the corresponding request to Liga 1. All that remains now is wrapping up a few administrative steps before ticket sales begin, which by all indications will be limited to home fans for security reasons.
Jaime Talledo, the club's attorney, explained how the negotiations are going:
There's a good chance it'll be played in Callao. The regional government has offered some flexibility on this. Right now we're working through the paperwork with DISEDE and the police to get the proper permit, and then also for the guarantees.Jaime Talledo
A streak that weighs like a curse
On the field, Sport Boys is riding high. Carlos Desio's side is coming off a 5-1 thrashing of Cienciano in Callao, delivered right after the Cusco club celebrated its trip to the Sudamericana quarterfinals. A forceful way to crash that party and reaffirm their intentions of staying in the thick of the Clausura title race.
The problem is that standing in their way is their historic tormentor. The last time La Misilera beat Cristal was in the 2007 Clausura, a resounding 3-0 win with goals from Angelo Cruzado, Jair Céspedes and Johnnier Montaño. That year the two sides met four times, common back when short tournaments still had home-and-away legs with fewer participants, and Sport Boys also won the Apertura meeting 1-3. Since then, the story has flipped entirely: over the next 27 meetings, Cristal won 19 times with 8 draws. Not a single win for the Callao side in all that time. The last point Boys managed to take off Cristal came in 2023, with 1-1 draws in both the Apertura and Clausura. On the other side, Sporting Cristal isn't at its best right now, arriving bruised after a loss to Alianza Atlético in Sullana. Moving the match to Callao also means beefing up security operations, something that's already being coordinated between both parties. A year away from its centennial, Sport Boys dreams of qualifying for international competition and, why not, fighting for the Clausura crown until the very end. To get there, snapping this streak against a direct rival like Cristal, and doing it at home no less, would be a massive step forward.
