Suazo after Sevilla's loss to Barcelona: "We leave with our heads held high"
The Chilean fullback admitted the team lacked energy in the second half, but praised his teammates' effort against "one of the best sides" in Spain.

The scoreboard read 1-3 in Barcelona's favor, but in the mixed zone at the Sanchez-Pizjuan, there was no sense of resignation coming from Sevilla. Gabriel Suazo, who played all ninety minutes on the left flank, stood in front of the Movistar Plus+ microphones and made clear that the locker room can hold its head high, even if the result didn't go their way.
The Chilean fullback was among the most candid when it came to assessing the quality of the opponent. He knew exactly what his team was up against, and he had no trouble saying so publicly.
We knew we were facing a tremendous opponent. For me, one of the teams that plays the best soccer. We competed at a high level, alongside our fans. In the second half we lacked a bit more energy to create some chances. We leave with our heads held highGabriel Suazo
That, according to Suazo himself, was the key to the match: energy. The Chilean explained that the fatigue both teams were carrying, after playing in quick succession, showed up especially in the second half, when Sevilla lost the sharpness it had shown before the break.
We were coming off back to back games, and so were they. The second half was less intense for both sides, though we lacked a bit more energy to find clarity up front. We missed that pass we were finding in the first half. We left everything out there on the field, and that's how we leaveGabriel Suazo
There's something Suazo repeats almost like a mantra: attitude is non-negotiable, win or lose. It's a message that speaks to commitment, but also to constructive self-criticism, since the fullback himself admits that the missing "pass" in the second half ended up being the difference against an opponent of Barcelona's caliber.
A locker room looking to connect with its fans
Beyond the tactical breakdown, Suazo wanted to say a few words about the fans who packed the stands at the Sanchez-Pizjuan. For the Chilean, the bond between the team and its supporters is something built match by match, even in defeat.
We want to, and we're trying to, win over these fans with a group that's leaving everything out there. That's going to be there in every matchGabriel Suazo
These are the words of a player who understands the results won't always go his team's way, but who insists that the effort can still be a constant. It remains to be seen whether that commitment translates into points soon, but for now, Suazo's message leaves one thing clear: Sevilla went toe to toe with one of the best teams in Spain, and for the Chilean fullback, that already counts for something.
