Troyes and Paris FC Split the Points in Scoreless Ligue 1 Opener
The match at the Stade de l'Aube left the impression of two teams unable to break down the other's defense despite the chances created.

Troyes and Paris FC played to a scoreless draw at the Stade de l'Aube, a result that splits the points on the opening weekend of Ligue 1 but leaves the impression of two teams that couldn't find a way past the opposing defense despite generating chances.
A duel of squandered opportunities
The match had its liveliest stretch in the first half hour, when Troyes, leaning on corner kicks and crosses into the box, repeatedly troubled the visiting defense. Renaud Ripart was the most active player up front: he tried a header in the 13th minute without success, fired another low shot in the 15th that was saved right under the crossbar, and had a third chance in the 30th minute, also turned away by the Paris FC goalkeeper.
Paris FC answered with an offensive threat of its own. In the 31st minute, Ilan Kebbal ripped a left-footed shot off the left post, the clearest chance the Parisian side created all night, and a minute later Pablo Pagis wasted another good look inside the box. The first half ended scoreless despite the back and forth, with Kandet Diawara still testing his luck for Troyes in first-half stoppage time.
The pace of clear-cut chances slowed in the second half. Paris FC, with more of the ball, shuffled its lineup by bringing on Moses Simon, Maxime Lopez and Omar Sissoko in search of a spark that never fully materialized, while Ilan Kebbal tried again with another shot in the 68th minute, once more without luck. Troyes, for its part, looked for a goal through crosses aimed at substitutes Antoine Mille and Alexandre Phliponeau, though neither was able to connect decisively. The match stretched into five minutes of second-half stoppage time with the scoreboard unchanged.
What the numbers say
The stats show a Paris FC side with more control of the ball, but unable to turn that into a clear edge in the penalty areas.
| Stat | Troyes | Paris FC |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 41.4 | 58.6 |
| Shots | 9 | 10 |
| Shots on target | 2 | 1 |
| Corners | 6 | 2 |
| Passes | 456 | 682 |
| Fouls committed | 8 | 14 |
The corner-kick count tells its own story: Troyes forced six compared to just two for Paris FC, consistent with its persistence down the flanks and crosses into the box for much of the match, even if it couldn't finish the job. According to post-match xG estimates based on shot locations, Paris FC generated 1.28 expected goals to 1.14 for Troyes, a razor-thin gap that backs up the sense of balance the final score suggested.
A forecast that didn't quite play out
Before kickoff, our model had given Paris FC a 39% chance of victory, Troyes 31%, and a draw 30%, with combined expected goals of 2.53 (1.18 for the home side and 1.35 for the visitors). The result ended up tilting toward the least likely of the three outcomes, as neither Troyes nor Paris FC managed to translate that offensive forecast onto the scoreboard, and the scoreless draw ran counter to expectations of a match with more than two goals in play.
What the result means
With this draw, both Troyes and Paris FC sit on one point in the standings after their opening match, in a start to the season where the table still says little given how early it is in the calendar. For Troyes, the chances created by Ripart and the team's effectiveness on set pieces are worth watching in the coming weeks; for Paris FC, Kebbal's post will stand as the lasting image of a night in which controlling the ball wasn't enough to take all three points from the Stade de l'Aube.
