Víctor Manuel Vucetich Joins Tigres as Sporting Vice President and Interim Coach, Longtime Monterrey Rival
The "King Midas" immediately joins the coaching staff to make his debut this Friday against Atlante in Matchday 5.

For a coach with the resume of Víctor Manuel Vucetich to decide to take a seat on the bench of a longtime rival of Monterrey, the club he led for years, is no small story. And even less so when the announcement comes with an unusual title attached: sporting vice president. Tigres officially introduced him in that dual role, along with interim head coach, and the "King Midas" himself explained how the deal came together.
According to Vucetich, the conversation with Mauricio Doehner, president of the Cemex-Sinergia Deportiva Liaison Committee, didn't come out of nowhere or arise out of urgency. It had been on the table for months.
I brought it up with Mauricio Doehner about, I'd say, I'm not sure if it was four or six months ago, I had talked it over with him, and now that this critical moment has come, well, it seemed interesting to me. Something I no longer wanted was to keep traveling so much, being away, working just to be gone. Today I have the chance to be at home and work, and I think that's ideal for me, right? To be able to spend the time with my family that I haven't had for many yearsVíctor Manuel Vucetich
The club's version matches the coach's. Carlos Emilio González, Tigres president, confirmed that the talks had been going on for some time and that the front office chose to wait for the right moment before finalizing the appointment.
This conversation with Coach Vucetich has been going on for several months. We've been talking with him. We felt he was someone who would add a great deal to the organization, and in recent days we've taken more time because we wanted to take all the time necessary to find the right coachCarlos Emilio González
Immediate Debut Against Atlante
There's no adjustment period involved. Vucetich will join the coaching staff right away and will be on the bench this Friday when Tigres host Atlante at Estadio Universitario, for Matchday 5 of Liga MX. That said, he's not arriving to push anyone out immediately: he acknowledged that Hernán Elizondo and Carlos Turrubiates, who have been running the team in recent weeks, will remain in place while he works his way into the process.
That distinction matters. Vucetich didn't frame his arrival as taking absolute control from day one, but rather as joining a group that has already been working with the squad.
His Loyalty to the Rayados Box Seats Stays Intact
One of the points that drew the most curiosity was his relationship with Monterrey, the club he led for several seasons and with which he still clearly has a personal bond. Asked whether he would stop attending games at Estadio BBVA now that he works for Tigres, he was direct.
I go to the stadium because I like soccer and because I have seats there in the box that I've already paid for and I'm not using them. So, I mean, I'm going to use them, and that's part of soccer. We're always going to be watching soccer, here, wherever, wherever we happen to beVíctor Manuel Vucetich
The answer sums up the man well: a coach who has no trouble separating his affection for one club from his new responsibility at another. Now, with the interim role already underway and the match against Atlante just around the corner, the Monterrey native will have to prove on the field that this "critical moment" he spoke of was, in fact, the right one.
