Violent Clashes Between Santa Fe and America Fans Halt Match at El Campin
Rodallega and Gonzalez called the incidents a disgrace for Colombian soccer on a night that ended 0-0.

Past the half-hour mark at El Campin, the match stopped mattering. A section of Independiente Santa Fe fans and a group of America de Cali supporters started throwing punches in the stands, and everything spiraled out of control within seconds. What was supposed to be an afternoon of soccer ended with players sprinting to the locker rooms for safety and police struggling to contain the chaos in the terraces.
Referee Moncada had no choice but to temporarily suspend the match, part of matchday six of the Liga BetPlay, while authorities worked to clear fans who had spilled onto the field. After several minutes of stoppage, play resumed, and with the score frozen at a scoreless draw, nothing that happened on the field could overshadow what had unfolded in the stands.
Because, let's be honest, almost nobody talked about the 0-0 afterward. Everything centered on the incidents, and both players and coaches from both sides held nothing back when it came to expressing their frustration in the postgame press conference.
Rodallega: "It's a Disgrace"
Hugo Rodallega, Santa Fe's captain and standout, was among the first to speak. The forward, his voice heavy with resignation, called for these kinds of episodes to stop happening in Colombian soccer.
I'd rather not even talk about what happened today because it was a disgrace, it's a disgrace that this happens in our soccer. This is a call for peace, for harmony. You compete on the field, but these acts are shameful, they only give a bad image of our country and our soccer.Hugo Rodallega
The captain went further, linking what happened to the difficult context the country has been going through in recent days, an especially hard week for Colombia.
It's a shame that this reaches different parts of the world, all people are going to talk about is the bad image we saw tonight. It's sad and unfortunate after everything we've been through these past few days.Hugo Rodallega
David Gonzalez: "We Are a Disgrace"
On America's side, David Gonzalez was equally blunt. The coach spoke of an episode that, in his view, stands in stark contrast to the unity the country showed just days earlier.
It's a total disgrace. As a people, one day we come together and the next we tear apart any alliance that exists, we are a disgrace. Seeing what we saw today on the field is like going back to the history books we read in school.David Gonzalez
Gonzalez also admitted that the players were completely thrown off after the suspension, something that showed in the opening minutes once play resumed.
Those 15 minutes after the suspension felt like a different match. We were in shock, we went into survival mode, and that's not what this should be about.David Gonzalez
Following the incident, America de Cali released a statement regretting what happened in Bogota, joining the call for calm made by those involved on the field. The result, a modest 0-0, faded into the background on a night neither team wants to relive.
