The goal against Boca in the Copa Argentina took him to 63 tallies, with only Lisandro López ahead of him among the club's scorers this century.

Adrián Martínez scores against Boca and moves into second on Racing's scoring list this century

Some players join a club and spend months trying to find their footing. Then there's Adrián Martínez, who seems to have signed a pact with opposing goalkeepers from the moment he set foot in Avellaneda. The latest chapter came with a goal against Boca Juniors in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Copa Argentina, a goal that stings not just because of who it came against, but because it dug him even deeper into Racing's history books.

With that strike, Maravilla reached 63 goals in 124 matches wearing La Academia's jersey. Those numbers are impressive enough on their own, but they take on a different weight when measured against the right standard: the club's top scorers so far this century.

A place among Racing's greats

The 34-year-old forward (he turns 35 on July 7) arrived at Racing for the 2024 season from Instituto de Córdoba, without the fanfare that usually comes with a marquee signing. Time, though, has proven right those who believed in him: he's now the second-highest scorer in the club's 21st century, ahead of names like Gustavo Bou (46 goals) and Diego Milito (58 goals). Only one legend remains ahead of him on that list: Lisandro López, with 79 goals.

The fact that a player who arrived at 32 without much hype is now closing in on the historic podium held by an idol like Pipa López says a lot about what his time at the club has meant. You don't have to be a Racing fan to recognize that kind of production isn't common.

A scorer in the finals that matter

But his league and domestic cup numbers are only part of the story. The Campana native also showed up when the club had something big on the line internationally. He scored what made it 2-0 in the final against Cruzeiro, played in Asunción, and finished as the top scorer of Racing's title run in the 2024 CONMEBOL Sudamericana.

As if to prove 2024 was no fluke, he was celebrating in another final in 2025. This time the victim was Botafogo, in the first leg of the CONMEBOL Recopa. Two years, two finals, two crucial goals: that's the pattern Maravilla has built since arriving in Avellaneda.

The goal against Boca in the Copa Argentina may not carry the shine of a continental final, but it adds another brick to what is already shaping up to be a standout stretch. With 63 goals and only a handful of names ahead of him in the club's recent history, the question now taking hold among Racing fans is simple: how far can Adrián Martínez go if he keeps up this pace?
