Alberto Gamero returns to Millonarios with one goal in mind: the title
The coach laid out his roadmap in his first training session back: hard work, individual growth and competing for the championship.
Coming home always feels different. You could see it on Alberto Gamero's face as he stepped back onto the field with Millonarios across his chest, this time from the bench. The coach held his first training session with the blue and white squad in this second stint in charge, and he didn't waste any time laying out the goal: fight for the title.
This isn't just any homecoming. For much of the Millonarios fan base, Gamero is the coach who brought the club back into constant title contention in recent years, and now he's returning at a moment when the club has been active in the transfer market to build a competitive roster. That was exactly the first read the coach gave when he reunited with the group.
The guys who joined and the ones who were already here know how big this club is. Coming back here means a lot to me, first because this is a big club, and second, because it reinforced well. What we're going to try to do is help you all become even better.Alberto Gamero
That last point, making players better, is one of Gamero's trademarks from his first spell at Millonarios. It's not just about results: it's about process, daily work and individual demands within a collective. Now, with new faces in the locker room, the message is aimed both at those who already know his methods and at the new signings joining a squad he himself helped build into a perennial contender.
Dreaming of the title
Gamero didn't hold back when talking about objectives. For the newcomers, he wanted to be clear about what wearing this jersey means and what it takes to compete in it.
The new guys need to know that becoming champions with Millonarios is the best feeling there is. So you have the team, the team is built to fight for that. You all know it, that's what you were brought in for: to fight for the title, and I believe we can do it.Alberto Gamero
These are words that sound like a starting point, not an empty promise. Gamero knows this house, knows the pressure of managing Millonarios, and also knows how hard it is to sustain a winning project in Colombian soccer. So rather than a welcome speech, what he left with the squad in his first session was a roadmap: work, individual growth and, at the end of the road, a fight for the title.
The first training session is already behind them. Now comes the part that really matters: turning those words into results on the field, with a group that arrives reinforced and, according to the coach himself, with an obligation to be right there in the biggest fight of all.
