América Tops the Apertura 2026 Table Despite Using 30 Players and 5 Debutants
Between injuries, national team call-ups and last-minute signings, Almada hasn't repeated a full lineup in a single match, yet the Eagles sit in first place with the tournament's best offense.

Thirty players. Three different goalkeepers. Five debutants straight from the youth academy. And yet América sits atop the Apertura 2026 standings. If you thought a team needed a settled starting eleven to fight for first place, the Eagles are proving otherwise.
Guillermo Almada hasn't had his full squad available for any of the 11 matches played so far. The tournament kicked off without several national team call ups, then injuries piled on, and on top of that the club brought in reinforcements while the competition was already underway. Despite that constant puzzle, América has the tournament's best offense, a game in hand, and the overall lead. No other Liga MX team has shuffled its lineup as much as the Uruguayan coach has.
Espinoza, the one who never comes off
If there's one name that sums up consistency amid the chaos, it's Dagoberto Espinoza. The Mexican midfielder started all 11 matches and has racked up 863 minutes, the highest total on the entire roster. That consistency didn't go unnoticed: it earned him his first call-up to the Mexican national team during this very Apertura.
Behind him come Henry Martín with 822 minutes and Erick Sánchez with 743, the two other players Almada has barely been able (or willing) to take off the field.
Three goalkeepers, one necessity
It's a rare sight: all three goalkeepers on América's roster have seen minutes this tournament. Rodolfo Cota started out as the clear number one and leads the way with 630 minutes. Ángel Malagón returned from injury and has logged 180, the exact same total as young Fernando Tapia, who was forced into his first division debut by the circumstances of the schedule and the injury list.
The academy also got its moment in the sun: besides Tapia, Almada handed first team debuts to Diego Arriaga, Ícaro Da Conceicao, Franco Rossano and Alejandro Cárdenas. Five debuts in a single tournament is no small thing for a club that typically demands immediate results.
Departures, arrivals and instant goals
Not everyone who wore the blue and gold this season is still on the roster. Sebastián Cáceres played 180 minutes before leaving for Celta de Vigo, and Patricio Salas, with just 33 minutes to his name, went out on loan to Portugal's Famalicão. Both are still part of that list of 30 names used.
On the other end are the reinforcements who arrived late but wasted no time. Óscar Perea, the first to join, has logged 227 minutes and already scored three goals. Miguel Borja, with just 142 minutes (the shortest workload among the new arrivals), has four goals, the best goals-per-minute rate on the entire team.
With so many pieces rotating in and out, you'd expect instability. América, however, holds first place with a game in hand, built on a rotation that blends experience, homegrown talent and reinforcements who delivered right away.
