Atlético San Luis and Pachuca collide in search of their first breath of life in the Apertura 2026
The San Luis side are still winless, while the Tuzos arrive off three straight losses.

Neither Atlético San Luis nor Pachuca can afford to keep staring up at the table from the bottom. The Apertura 2026 reaches its fifth matchday, and Estadio Libertad Financiera will host a clash that promises more urgency than eye-catching soccer: both sides need points like they need air.
The San Luis club still hasn't tasted victory this tournament. Four matchdays, four stumbles, leaving them with just two points and sitting in 15th place in the standings. Diego Mejía took charge of the team over the summer hoping to pull it out of the rut it's been stuck in for a couple of seasons, but the start hasn't given him any breathing room: key absences keep piling up, and the schedule shows no mercy.
A look at the results tells the story: an opening defeat to Cruz Azul, a scoreless draw with Tigres, another split of points against Tijuana, and, most recently, a 3-0 loss to America. In that game, San Luis was also reduced to ten men after Robson Bambu was sent off, and he'll now sit out the match against the Tuzos due to suspension.
Pachuca sits a notch higher in the table, but they're not exactly thriving either. Benjamin Mora's side has three points, all from their opening win over Pumas. Since then they've dropped three straight: first to Queretaro, then to Leon, and most recently to Puebla. That's exactly why this trip to San Luis territory becomes a test of character: if the team wants to snap its losing streak, it will have to do so on the road, something it already managed in its lone win of the tournament.
To make matters worse, Pachuca won't be at full strength either. Alexei Dominguez will miss the match after a recent surgery, a costly absence for the Tuzos' attack.
Probable lineups
Atlético San Luis: Andres Sanchez; Eduardo Aguila, Miguel Garcia, Aldo Cruz, Roman Torres; Oscar Macias, Sebastien Salles-Lamonge, Lucas Esteves, David Rodriguez; Rafael Llorente and Felipe Mora.
Pachuca: Carlos Moreno; Carlos Sanchez, Eduardo Bauermann, Sergio Barreto, Mauricio Isais; Sergio Rodriguez, Elias Montiel, Kenedy, Alan Bautista; Oussama Idrissi and Salomon Rondon.
Date, kickoff time and how to watch
The match will be played on Sunday, August 23 at Estadio Libertad Financiera. Kickoff is set for 5:00 pm Mexico City time, 6:00 pm in Ecuador, Colombia and Peru, 7:00 pm Eastern and in Chile, and 8:00 pm in Argentina and Uruguay. The broadcast in Mexico will be available through ESPN, Disney+ and Vix.
With neither team in a comfortable spot, the match looks even in terms of need, though not necessarily in quality of soccer. San Luis will look for its first win of the tournament in front of its own fans; Pachuca will try to snap its skid away from home. Something will have to give.
