Barcelona Lands in Pot 1 for 2026-27 Champions League, Dodges Spanish Rivals and Bayern, PSG, Liverpool, City, Inter and Arsenal
The Catalans will play eight league phase matches, four at home and four on the road, against clubs from the other pots and associations.

It's still too early for Barcelona to know exactly who it will face in the league phase of the 2026-27 Champions League, but fans can already start dreaming, or worrying, about the potential matchups. Hansi Flick's side landed in Pot 1, which offers a bit of relief heading into the draw, though in this league phase format there's no such thing as a truly "easy" opponent: any of the eight teams Barcelona draws could make life difficult.
Under the format now familiar after two seasons in place, Barcelona must face two teams from each of the four pots, for a total of eight matches: four at home and four away. One rule remains unchanged though: clubs can't be drawn against opponents from their own association, so any Spanish team is automatically off the table as a possible rival.
Within Pot 1 itself, alongside Barcelona, sit names that are already well known from European nights: Bayern Munich, PSG, Liverpool, Manchester City, Inter and Arsenal. Since they share a pot with the Catalans, none of them can be drawn against Barcelona in this league phase, so that whole group is ruled out as potential opponents.
The full pots, with something for every taste
Pot 2 blends established heavyweights with clubs in the middle of rebuilding projects: Borussia Dortmund, Roma, Sporting CP, Aston Villa, Porto, Manchester United, Club Brugge and PSV. There's a bit of everything there, from historic giants to clubs still searching for their best European form.
Pot 3 features opponents who tend to spring surprises no matter who ends up facing them: Feyenoord, Lille, Bodo/Glimt, Napoli, RB Leipzig, Shakhtar Donetsk and Galatasaray. And Pot 4 rounds out the field with Slavia Prague, Stuttgart, Como, Lens, LASK Linz and Sabah FK, teams that arrive with less star power but plenty of hunger to pull off an upset against a giant like Barcelona.
One chapter still needs to be written before the list is complete. On Wednesday, August 26, the final four league phase qualifiers will be decided, coming out of the playoff ties between AEK Athens and Levski Sofia, Viking FK and Dinamo Zagreb, NK Celje and Slovan Bratislava, and Lyon against Fenerbahce. Only once those names are confirmed will the pot be fully locked in.
In the meantime, at Camp Nou, or wherever Barcelona ends up playing its home matches while renovation work continues, speculation is already building over the possible matchups. Will Barcelona draw another familiar foe from recent editions, or will a fresh face show up to test Flick's squad right from matchday one? Only the draw will tell, and as always in the Champions League, it promises to throw up at least one matchup nobody saw coming.
