Barcelona thrashes Racing de Santander 7-2 as Raphinha bags a hat trick

Seven goals, three of them from Raphinha and one more from Lamine Yamal to cap off the party in stoppage time: the Barcelona 7, Racing de Santander 2 scoreline at Spotify Camp Nou produced numbers that even our own pre-match projection hadn't fully anticipated. And that's saying something, since we'd already flagged a blowout as likely.

The match unfolded exactly as expected. In the 7th minute, João Cancelo curled a shot into the top corner from outside the box after a pass from Lamine Yamal, and Barcelona never let go of the reins. After a penalty conceded by Pedro Felipe on Raphinha, the Brazilian himself made it 2-0 in the 24th minute. Racing de Santander answered almost immediately: in the 29th, Maguette Gueye, set up by Asier Villalibre, pulled one back to make it 2-1 and inject some tension, though it didn't last long.

That's how the first half ended, though not without a curious wrinkle: Lamine Yamal missed a penalty in the 44th minute, and on top of that Barcelona was forced into an early substitution due to injury, with Wojciech Szczesny coming on for Joan García before the second half even began.

In the second half, Racing de Santander had its best spell of the match. Yassir Zabiri, who had come on as a substitute, pulled one back in the 64th minute to make it 4-2, a result that briefly seemed to restore some uncertainty to the game. But barely two minutes later, another penalty (this time conceded by Iker Luque on Karim Adeyemi) gave Raphinha the chance to complete his hat trick: 5-2 in the 66th minute. Barcelona added two more before the final whistle: Gabriel Jesus in the 78th minute, assisted by Lamine Yamal, and Lamine Yamal himself in the 88th minute sealing the 7-2 final on a counterattack finished off with an assist from Adeyemi.
