Barracas Central hosts Argentinos Juniors in Clausura 2026 matchday eight
El Guapo looks to climb back into playoff position against one of the tournament's most consistent teams.
Just a few weeks ago, Barracas Central was among the top contenders in Zone B. A four-game losing streak slowed its momentum and knocked it out of playoff position. Now, after a draw against Tigre snapped that skid, El Guapo will try to get back on track against one of the league's most consistent sides: Argentinos Juniors.
The match is set for Monday, September 7 at the Estadio Claudio Tapia, for matchday eight of the 2026 Clausura Tournament. Kickoff is at 7:00 PM in Argentina and Uruguay, 6:00 PM in Chile, and 5:00 PM in Colombia, Peru and Ecuador, with live coverage for Argentine viewers on ESPN Premium.
A matchup that could reshuffle the standings
What stands out is that both clubs opened the tournament as the zone's top favorites. While Barracas fell off with those four straight losses, Argentinos Juniors, under Nicolas Diez, kept up a near-perfect run and stayed firmly near the top. For the home side, a win here means more than three points: it's a chance to jump back into playoff position before the gap becomes too tough to close.
On El Guapo's side, the names to watch are Facundo Bruera, Gonzalo Maroni and Rodrigo Insua, the latter also a key figure in the recent history between these two clubs. For Argentinos, the spotlight falls on Tomas Molina, Hernan Lopez Munoz and Francisco Alvarez, the engines behind the Bicho's collective game.
How both teams arrive
Barracas Central snapped its losing streak with a draw against Tigre last matchday, a result that helped morale more than the standings, but one that gives the team a base to try to build momentum in front of its home fans. Argentinos, for its part, was also coming off a rough patch and answered with a 2 to 1 home win over Aldosivi, a result that restored confidence right before this trip to the Claudio Tapia.
The most recent meeting between the two sides left a bittersweet taste for Barracas. In the Apertura Tournament, Insua had put the home team ahead, but Argentinos equalized in stoppage time through a goal from Japanese forward Ryoga Kida, a finish that still stings in Barracas and adds extra spice to this rematch.
With a playoff spot as the goal for one side and first place on the horizon for the other, Monday's match at the Claudio Tapia promises plenty on the line for both teams.
