Bayern Beats Leipzig 3-1, But Laimer and Min-jae Exit Injured in Telekom Cup

Laimer and Min-jae were forced off with injuries, and Musiala fainted from heat exhaustion just a week before the Supercup.

Bayern Beats Leipzig 3-1, But Laimer and Min-jae Exit Injured in Telekom Cup

The final score became an afterthought the moment the match ended. Bayern Munich beat Leipzig 3-1 in the Telekom Cup at the Allianz Arena, but the headlines had nothing to do with the scoreline. Instead, all the attention turned to the scare Vincent Kompany's bench went through in the closing minutes.

Let's break it down. The Bavarian side came off an Asia tour with two wins already banked and returned home to face a longtime Bundesliga rival, even if only in a friendly setting. Working with a squad missing several regulars, Kompany put together a competitive lineup and handed the attacking duties to Luis Diaz, who delivered: in the 13th minute he scored a brilliant goal that put the match on track, his second of the season. The final numbers came together in the second half with goals from Brown and Jamal Musiala, though the 3-1 result ended up being just a footnote to the night.

Three Injury Concerns a Week Before the Supercup

The first alarm bell came on the physical side. Konrad Laimer, a key piece in Kompany's setup, lasted just 10 minutes on the field before asking to come off. The Austrian took a knock to his lower back, struggled to walk, and needed help from the club's medical staff to leave the pitch.

Later, already in the second half, it was Min-jae's turn. He sat down on the grass and also asked to be substituted, making way for Ito. No details have emerged yet on the severity of either issue, which naturally has Munich on edge with the German Supercup just a week away.

Musiala's Collapse Sets Off Alarm Bells

If the injuries were already cause for concern, what happened with Musiala was a genuine scare. The midfielder had come on in the second half and had even scored the team's third goal in front of the home fans. But minutes after his goal, he collapsed on the field after losing consciousness.

His teammates rushed to his side immediately, and the club's medical staff were quick to attend to him. Fortunately, Musiala recovered quickly and was able to walk off the field under his own power, easing the tension inside the stadium. According to the German newspaper BILD, the episode was caused by heat exhaustion, ruling out anything more serious.

With Laimer and Min-jae now physical question marks, and the Musiala scare behind them according to reports, Kompany will have to spend the coming days figuring out who will be fit for the Supercup. For a team that was simply looking to build match sharpness before the official start of the season, the friendly left behind more medical questions than footballing certainties.
