Belghali wrecks Parma: three assists as Torino cruises to 0-3 rout despite home team's dominance
With a brace from Simeone and a goal from Adams, Torino made the most of its chances against a Parma side that controlled possession, fired 25 shots and still couldn't find the net.

The clock had barely hit the 3rd minute at the Ennio Tardini when Parma already found itself trailing. Giovanni Simeone connected with a cross from Rafik Belghali and finished left-footed from the center of the box, curling it into the top left corner for the 0-1. The match had just started and Torino had already made its plan clear: strike early, then manage the game. It finished 0-3, a drubbing that leaves Parma in even deeper trouble near the bottom of Serie A.
The second blow landed in the 23rd minute. Che Adams, also set up by Belghali (this time with a headed flick off the initial cross), headed home from close range to make it 0-2, a goal that needed a VAR review before it was allowed to stand. Torino went into the break with the lead well in hand, while Parma, despite holding more of the ball, couldn't find a way to seriously threaten its opponent.
In the second half, Alberto Gilardino's side gave it a real go. They created chances, pumped balls into the box and kept Lucas Perri busy, but every time it looked like they might claw their way back into the match, Belghali popped up to shut the door. In the 68th minute, the Torino fullback delivered his third assist of the night, again with a headed pass, and Simeone completed his brace with a right-footed strike from outside the box that found the top left corner for the final 0-3.
Parma still thought it had pulled one back in the 80th minute when Matija Frigan put the ball in the net, but VAR overturned the goal and a minute later confirmed it did not count. It was the last twist in a night that, numbers in hand, looks deceiving for the home side.
Plenty of possession, not enough precision
The stats paint a curious picture: Parma dominated possession, took far more shots than its opponent and posted an estimated xG of 1.62 compared to Torino's 1.46 (a figure based on the shots taken in the match, not a pre-game prediction). But soccer isn't played on averages, and Torino was far more clinical when it mattered.
| Stat | Parma | Torino |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 51.1 | 48.9 |
| Shots | 25 | 9 |
| Shots on target | 8 | 3 |
| Corners | 6 | 2 |
| Passes | 461 | 452 |
| Fouls committed | 7 | 16 |
Twenty five shots to nine, and yet three goals conceded. Parma had the ball and kept pushing it into the box time and again, but lacked precision in front of goal, while Torino got the job done with three clinical plays: a left-footed curler into the top corner, a close-range header, and a right-footed strike from outside the box, all of them traced back to Belghali.
What the preview said versus what actually happened
Before the match, our projection split the odds almost evenly in thirds: 33% chance of a Parma win, 34% for a draw and 33% for Torino, with expected goals barely topping two in total (1.01 for the home side, 1.02 for the visitors). Nothing in that forecast hinted at a rout, let alone one so lopsided. The final result ended up contradicting that initial balance entirely.
In the standings, the gap was already showing: Torino arrived with 10 points through seven matches played, while Parma had just 4, a 6-point gap between the two sides that tonight's result only reinforces. For Gilardino's team, the problem remains the same: generating volume isn't enough without the finishing touch up front. For Torino, the match stands as a display of efficiency rarely seen with so few shots on target.
