Boca Juniors gets no rest: clashes with Independiente and River, Copa Argentina duty and the Barranquilla final, all in one month

After knocking out Vasco da Gama, Arruabarrena's side will face Independiente, River and Defensa y Justicia, plus a Copa Argentina semifinal against Banfield, all before the Sudamericana final.

Leandro Paredes' roar at the Maracana is still echoing, but there's no time at Boca Juniors to linger over the celebration photos. The team is already back in Buenos Aires, and the schedule waiting for them shows no mercy: two straight derbies, the close of the Clausura's regular phase and a Copa Argentina semifinal, all before setting foot in Barranquilla for the Sudamericana final.

The win in Rio de Janeiro was no small feat. Boca flipped the series with a 3-1 victory over Vasco da Gama, after having lost 1-0 at La Bombonera, and with that result reinforced a trend that has held up over the years: Boca is the Argentine club with the most wins against Brazilian opponents, with 43 victories, the one that has advanced past the most knockout series (28 of 42), and the one with the most road wins, with 18. These are numbers that carry real weight in the history of matchups between clubs from both countries, and now they have one more chapter to add.

Independiente, the first test after the Maracana

The Xeneize return to domestic action on Sunday, October 25, at 5:00 p.m., when they visit Independiente at Estadio Libertadores de America-Ricardo Enrique Bochini, for matchday 14 of Zone A in the Clausura. It will mark the return to the domestic grind after the heroics in Brazil, with an added twist: Boca arrives as the leader of the Annual Table and has no interest in giving up that edge, while El Rojo comes off a 1-1 draw in the Avellaneda derby.

A week later, the rivalry intensifies even further. On Sunday, November 1, at 3:00 p.m., Boca will host River Plate at La Bombonera for the Superclasico. Beyond what this match always represents, it will be played with the tournament's regular phase down to the wire, so the result could carry more weight than usual.

And the run shows no sign of letting up: the following week, again at home, Boca will take on Defensa y Justicia. With that match, Rodolfo Arruabarrena's side will wrap up its appearances that count toward the 2026 Liga Profesional Annual Table, with nine points still up for grabs. First place is no small matter: it hands out a trophy and, above all, a direct ticket to the next CONMEBOL Libertadores, one of the club's main goals for next season.

Banfield, exactly one week before the final

As if the calendar weren't already packed enough, on Saturday, November 14, Boca will face Banfield in the Copa Argentina semifinals. It's a knockout stage that lands just seven days before the Sudamericana final, set for Saturday, November 21, in Barranquilla.

The chance to reach another final is on the table, but so is the challenge of arriving in Colombia in one piece. For Arruabarrena, the tight turnaround between these two commitments puts the focus squarely on squad recovery and managing physical loads in the weeks ahead. Between derbies, points toward the Annual Table and a cup semifinal, Boca has a stretch in front of it that could define much of its year in just a handful of weeks.
