Charlotte FC scores three goals in 22 minutes to stun D.C. United 3-1
After trailing 1-0, Charlotte scored three goals in just 22 minutes to complete a stunning second-half turnaround.

Bank of America Stadium was stuck in a flat scoreless draw until the 54th minute. That's when Louis Munteanu popped up to put D.C. United ahead, and it looked like the visitors were about to walk away with a valuable result. What nobody saw coming was Charlotte FC's response: three goals in just 22 minutes to flip the scoreline and close out the match 3-1.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair without a payoff. D.C. United gave an early warning through Kimito Nono and Louis Munteanu, both testing goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina, while Charlotte answered with headers from Henry Kessler and Morrison Agyemang that found no luck. There were corners at both ends, a couple of yellow cards (Keisuke Kurokawa and Silvan Hefti) and just one minute of stoppage time that came and went without a goal: 0-0 at the break.
Second-half madness
The second half opened evenly, with chances for Brandon Servania and Jackson Hopkins on the visiting side and for Allan Saint-Maximin at home, until the 54th minute brought the first blow: Munteanu curled a shot into the corner off a Peglow assist from a free kick, putting United ahead.
Charlotte needed just nine minutes to answer. In the 63rd minute, David Schnegg leveled the score with a close-range left-footed finish off another free kick, and two minutes later, in the 65th, Will Cleary headed home a Pep Biel cross from a corner to make it 2-1. The stadium was still settling into its new lead when, in the 76th minute, Pep Biel put the finishing touch on the comeback with a low left-footed strike off a counterattack started by Liel Abada, sealing the final 3-1.
D.C. United had its last chances through Louis Munteanu, who tried a header late on, but there was no time or accuracy left to pull one back.
By the numbers
Charlotte controlled possession and ball circulation, though D.C. United was sharper in front of goal, out-shooting the home side overall:

| Shots on target | 5 | 5 |

According to our xG estimate calculated from the match's shots, Charlotte generated 2.327 expected goals to D.C. United's 2.277, a razor-thin margin that confirms just how even the contest was despite the final scoreline.
Our preview had given Charlotte a 46% chance of winning, against 26% for D.C. United and 28% for a draw, with expected goals of 1.60 for the home side and 1.15 for the visitors. The final result ended up more lopsided than projected, though the overall trend, a Charlotte win, did hold up, even after the home side had fallen behind on the scoreboard.
What it means in the standings
