City, Barcelona and Bayern remain untouchable, and the weekend's numbers prove it
Haaland reaches 100 non-penalty goals, Barcelona closes in on historic records, and five clubs are tied at the top of Ligue 1.

If you missed the weekend's soccer action, here's the good news: nothing out of the ordinary happened. The usual suspects kept on winning. Manchester City, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and the top spots in Serie A made it clear that, for now, business as usual rules Europe's top leagues. But behind that apparent monotony lie some numbers worth pausing over.
Let's start with the Premier League. City remains perfect: seven wins in seven after beating Ipswich Town, with an extra nugget of trivia. Enzo Maresca became the first manager in the competition's history to win his first seven matches in charge of a club. Meanwhile, Erling Haaland kept writing his own chapter of history: his goal against Ipswich was his 100th non-penalty goal in the Premier League, reached in just 139 appearances, the fastest anyone has ever hit that mark. Arsenal also picked up all three points and now has 32 wins by a 1-0 scoreline since Mikel Arteta took charge in December 2019, tied with Everton for the most in that span. On top of that, Unai Emery celebrated his 100th win as a Premier League manager, achieved in his 197th match, a feat only eight managers have reached in fewer games.
Brighton, sitting third in the table, hammered five past Crystal Palace and has now scored 23 goals so far this season, a tally bettered in Premier League history only by Arsenal (2009-10), Manchester United (2011-12) and Manchester City (2019-20) through their first seven league matches. One of those goals, scored by Diego Gomez, came from 51 meters out, the longest-range goal in the Premier League since Wayne Rooney's wonder strike in 2017. Liverpool and Chelsea rounded out Saturday's favorable results, with Florian Wirtz standing out against Brentford by creating nine open-play chances, a tally not seen since Sadio Mane back in 2021.
Barcelona closing in on history in LaLiga
In Spain, Barcelona thrashed Betis 5-2 and has now won nine matches in nine rounds, a feat only Real Madrid had previously managed, back in 1968-69. With 39 goals scored, Hansi Flick's side trails only Sevilla's 1940-41 squad for the highest-scoring start to a league season in history. And when you factor in all competitions, the number is even more striking: 11 wins in 11 matches, matching the best start by any Spanish club, a mark Real Madrid itself has set twice. The date to break the record is already circled: October 25, in nothing less than El Clasico. Lamine Yamal remains at the center of another streak: he became the first player in Europe's top five leagues to reach 10 assists this season across all competitions, adding nine goals to that tally, making him the most involved player in goals anywhere in Europe. Mbappe, for his part, has nine goals in LaLiga, trailing only Raphinha, who has 12. Real Madrid, meanwhile, kept pace as well, routing Sevilla 4-1 and witnessing another notable milestone: Yan Diomande, at 19 years and 338 days old, became the youngest player in the club's history this century to score and assist in the same league match, surpassing the record previously held by Jude Bellingham. Atletico Madrid, for its part, beat Espanyol 1-0 and has now scored 10 goals after the 80th minute this season, the highest total among Europe's top five leagues.
Bayern rules in Germany, surprises in Italy and France
There was a change at the top of the Bundesliga: Bayern Munich thrashed RB Leipzig 6-1 and took over first place from Borussia Dortmund, which drew 0-0 against Union Berlin. Harry Kane made the most of his 100th appearance in the competition by scoring his 102nd goal, the best scoring record by any player through their first 100 Bundesliga matches. Werder Bremen, meanwhile, pulled off a rare feat: coming back from a two-goal deficit in three straight matches, something never before seen in the competition's history. In Italy, there were no surprises at the top: Inter, Lazio, Roma and Milan all won their matches. Gian Piero Gasperini reached 300 wins as a Serie A manager, joining an exclusive club that includes Trapattoni, Allegri, Spalletti and Rocco. At Milan, Ruben Amorim remains unbeaten through his first seven matches in charge, a feat only two other managers have achieved in the club's history. And Marcus Thuram, of Inter, joined Lamine Yamal as the only players among Europe's top five leagues with at least 10 goals and five assists since the start of April. Finally, Ligue 1 offers an unusual snapshot in the standings: after seven rounds, Lyon, Paris Saint-Germain, Paris FC, Lille and Monaco are all tied on exactly 14 points, something never before seen in the competition at this stage of the season.
