No Cuadrado Debut Yet: Gamero Leaves Him Out of Millonarios Squad for Cúcuta Clash
The Colombian midfielder still hasn't trained normally with the squad, and Alberto Gamero prefers to take things slowly before putting him on the field.
The news every Millonarios fan has been waiting for will have to wait a little longer. Juan Guillermo Cuadrado is not in Millonarios' squad list for the match against Cúcuta Deportivo, part of the latest matchday of the BetPlay League 2026-II. The return of the legendary Colombian national team midfielder to domestic soccer remains up in the air, at least when it comes to actual minutes on the field.
Cuadrado signed with Millonarios, and the news set the fan base abuzz, but the player still hasn't trained normally with the squad. That's why Alberto Gamero decided not to rush things and prefers to manage the timeline carefully before handing him his first minutes.
The coach from Santa Marta was clear when explaining the process being handled with the new signing.
"Depending on when he arrives, we'll figure it out. It also depends on training. What I talked to him about is that he'll be with the group as soon as possible to play whatever it takes, 10 or 15 minutes. We want to get him some rhythm out on the field"Alberto Gamero
In the meantime, the team has other pressing matters. Millonarios comes into this match after a 1-1 draw against Deportivo Cali in Bogotá, a result that left a bittersweet taste and adds to a start of the cycle that still hasn't convinced anyone. With two matches under Gamero in this new stretch and two draws to show for it, the pressure to get the first win is starting to mount.
El Embajador sits in fifth place with 13 points, with no games in hand, a position that isn't bad but also isn't what the club's recent history demands. Gamero knows the margin is shrinking and that results, sooner rather than later, need to start falling into place.
Millonarios' 20-player squad
To face Cúcuta, the coach called up two goalkeepers: Burrai and Aguirre. On defense will be Llinás, Banguero, Martín, Barreiro, Valencia and Mosquera. The midfield line is made up of Mackalister Silva, Ureña, Ruiz, Romero, García, Quintero and Del Castillo, while up front there's Leo Castro, Angulo, Estupiñán, Contreras and Chaverra.
Cuadrado's absence from this list confirms that his debut still doesn't have an exact date. What is clear is that the club wants to handle things carefully: no rushing the timeline, no exposing him before he's truly ready. For now, Gamero is focused on the urgent matter at hand, which is getting three points against Cúcuta and starting to climb the table with the squad he already has available.
