Daniel Muñoz Joins Nottingham Forest for £22 Million to Reunite with Oliver Glasner

When Oliver Glasner packed his bags for Nottingham Forest, the worst was already feared at Selhurst Park. And it wasn't just a hunch: wherever the Austrian manager goes, it seems one of his trusted players tends to follow. The latest to trail him is Daniel Muñoz, who is leaving Crystal Palace to sign with Forest for £22 million (about $30 million).

The Colombian arrived at Palace from Belgium's Genk in January 2024 and, under Glasner, found the best version of himself as a right wing back. That role, built for players with stamina and an eye for attack, suited him perfectly: he covered the flank end to end, delivered crosses and provided plenty of defensive solidity too. It's no coincidence that Muñoz was also a regular fixture for the Colombia squad that competed at this year's World Cup.

Same Blueprint, Different Badge

At Forest, Glasner is replicating the setup that worked so well for him at Palace: a five-man defense with wing backs who constantly push forward and track back. And that's exactly where Muñoz fits back in as a key piece. The manager has made no secret of his trust in players he already knows, ones who understand precisely what he asks of them, so this signing has more to do with a footballing reunion than a leap of faith.

For Crystal Palace, though, the deal stings. The club that won the Conference League title had already seen defender Maxence Lacroix depart this same window, transferring to Chelsea, and uncertainty still lingers over the future of another key player, Ismaila Sarr. Losing Muñoz, one of the best fullbacks in the Premier League last season, leaves a gap that won't be easy to fill in such a short time.

England's transfer window closes Tuesday night, so there's still time for both clubs to make another move before the deadline. But for now, the headline of the day has a name attached to it: Daniel Muñoz is changing scenery, sticking with the manager he trusts most, and strengthening a Forest side that, deep down, is starting to look a lot like the Palace that Glasner left behind.
