Daniel Torres suffers concussion in Santa Fe clash, taken to clinic for observation
The midfielder is recovering well and remains under observation after a collision in the Copa Sudamericana match against River.

The scare came in the 84th minute, with the match already drifting toward a scoreless draw. A hard collision left Daniel Torres stretched out on the field at the Santa Fe stadium, and what was initially thought to be a blow to the collarbone turned out to be something else entirely: a concussion that required his urgent transfer to a clinic.
The 0-0 draw against River Plate, in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana round of 16, faded into the background the moment the final whistle blew. In the mixed zone, both head coach Pablo Repetto and captain Hugo Rodallega shared what little was known at that point, which amounted to little more than concern.
"We're waiting to hear. He went with the medical staff to the clinic because he was dizzy from the impact. It appears to be in the collarbone area. We'll have to see what the tests show," Repetto said, still uncertain about what had happened.
Rodallega, who knows firsthand how much Torres means to the team's midfield, sounded even more concerned:
What happened to Daniel is a bit more worrying, he's at the clinic.Hugo Rodallega
And it was no small worry. Torres had established himself as a key figure in Santa Fe's setup against an opponent of River's caliber. His numbers on the night back that up: he finished the match with 39 accurate passes out of 41 attempted, won back possession seven times and came out on top in seven of ten duels. It's the kind of performance that explains why his absence, even a temporary one, hits the team's rhythm so hard.
The medical report eased the concerns
Around midday the following day, the club released a statement from its medical department that brought some relief after hours of uncertainty. The report confirmed that Torres "suffered a concussion, with a favorable progression following the trauma" and that "medical and neurological exams came back normal." According to the same statement, the player remained under clinical observation and, based on the neurology team's evaluation, was expected to be discharged within hours.
Before that report came out, Rodallega had already made clear the hope inside the locker room:
We're hoping for good news, that there's no damage that could keep him out, we need him, he's a key piece for us. We hope he recovers soon.Hugo Rodallega
The tie with River remains open after the scoreless draw in Bogota, with the decisive second leg set for Wednesday, August 26 at the Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires. It remains to be seen whether Torres will be fit for that match, though concussion protocols typically call for careful steps before clearing a player to return to competition. For now, the relief is that the diagnosis is not severe and the midfielder is recovering well.
