Slavia Prague Rescue 2-2 Draw Against Fenerbahce With 89th-Minute Strike
Fenerbahce squandered a 2-0 lead inside the first ten minutes and wound up conceding the equalizer in stoppage time to a Slavia Prague side that refused to stop pushing in the Champions League.

It took Fenerbahce just ten minutes to believe the game was already decided. Oguz Aydin opened the scoring in the 3rd minute with a left-footed strike from outside the box that nestled into the top corner, set up by Milan Skriniar, and Mason Greenwood doubled the lead in the 10th minute with a right-footed finish from the center of the area, assisted by Nelson Semedo. Two quick blows, straight to 2-0, at the Chobani Stadyumu. But Slavia Prague wasted no time responding: four minutes later, Lukas Provod pulled one back with a right-footed shot from the center of the box, and the match ended 2-2 after a finish nobody in the Fenerbahce stands saw coming.
That's because the equalizer was forged almost at the death. Fenerbahce managed the lead through the second half without pushing too hard for more, while Slavia Prague, despite not finding the breakthrough, kept coming forward through Mubarak Suleiman, Wiktor Nowak and Emmanuel Ayaosi. The persistence paid off in the 89th minute: Pavel Kacor, who had just come on, finished from close range through the middle of the goal after a cross from Ayaosi, sealing the final 2-2 with barely any time left for Fenerbahce to respond.
A dizzying first half
The start was end to end from the first whistle. After the lightning-fast Turkish double, Slavia Prague hit back quickly with Provod's goal and, before the break, created more danger than expected: Danijel Sturm tested the keeper twice from outside the box and Provod himself threatened the Fenerbahce defense again. The home side went into the break leading 2-1, but with the sense that the match was still wide open. In the second half, substitutions from both coaches (Ismail Kartal brought on Romelu Lukaku and Dorgeles Nene; Jindrich Trpisovsky shuffled his bench with Mojmir Chytil, Samuel Isife and finally Kacor) didn't change the script much until the final act.
The numbers behind the draw
The stats reflect just how even the contest was, beyond Fenerbahce's early lead on the scoreboard:
| Stat | Fenerbahce | Slavia Prague |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 49 | 51 |
| Shots | 15 | 15 |
| Shots on target | 4 | 4 |
| Big chances | 1 | 1 |
| Corners | 3 | 5 |
| Passes | 414 | 426 |
| Fouls committed | 12 | 15 |
The parity in shots and shots on target helps explain the final result. According to our own estimate calculated from the match's shot data, Slavia Prague generated 1.696 expected goals against 1.12 for Fenerbahce, a figure that backs up the idea that the equalizer wasn't a fluke for the Czechs, but rather the product of a second half in which they pushed harder.
The result runs counter to our pre-match projections: the preview gave Fenerbahce a 52% chance of winning, against 23% for Slavia Prague and 25% for a draw, with expected goals of 1.93 for the home side and 1.24 for the visitors. The early 2-0 seemed to confirm that forecast to the letter, but Kacor's stoppage-time goal ended up vindicating, instead, the roughly one-in-four chance the model had assigned to a draw.
What the point leaves behind
In the Champions League standings, Fenerbahce arrives at this match with 2 points from 3 games, and Slavia Prague with just 1 from the same 3 matches; the gap between them stands at 1 point. Neither side managed to pull away from the bottom of the table with this result. For Fenerbahce, letting a two-goal lead slip away on home turf stings especially hard in a competition where every point matters, while Slavia Prague walks away with a draw that, given how it arrived, feels almost like a win.
