Strasbourg rout Auxerre 5-1 as Yassine scores twice and the visitors finish with ten men
The Alsatian side controlled the match from start to finish, capitalized on Dioubate's red card and ran out to a rout that lifts them toward the middle of the table.

Five goals, a red card and an offensive display nobody at the Stade de la Meinau saw coming with this kind of force: Strasbourg thrashed Auxerre 5-1 and pulled away from the bottom of the table with a flawless afternoon. The match got difficult for the visitors as early as the first half and completely slipped away from them in the second, when they conceded four goals in barely half an hour.
Strasbourg controlled the game from the opening whistle, though the scoring took a while to open up. It wasn't until the 40th minute that Dario Essugo finished with his right foot from the center of the box, set up by Oso, to make it 1-0 at the break. The match fell apart for Auxerre in the second half: in the 54th minute, Martial Godo doubled the lead with a left-footed finish on the counterattack. Seven minutes later, Conrad Harder converted a penalty, won after Christ Makosso fouled Gessime Yassine inside the box, to make it 3-0.
Auxerre responded in the 67th minute through Cameron Archer, who finished with his right foot after a headed pass from Romain Faivre, and for a moment it looked like the game could open back up. But everything fell apart at the 73rd minute, when Lamfia Dioubate was shown a red card and left his side down to ten men. Strasbourg made them pay: Gessime Yassine scored twice, first with a left-footed strike in the 76th minute (assisted by Sebastian Nanasi) and then with a close-range header in the 84th, off a cross from Oso, to seal the final 5-1.
The numbers behind the domination
The stats mirror what was seen on the field: a Strasbourg side that controlled possession and created far more danger than its opponent.
| Stat | Strasbourg | Auxerre |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 64.3 | 35.7 |
| Shots | 19 | 6 |
| Shots on target | 6 | 2 |
| Corners | 5 | - |
| Passes | 581 | 323 |
| Fouls committed | 11 | 18 |
According to our own expected goals estimate, calculated from the match's shots, Strasbourg generated 3.24 xG compared to just 0.31 xG for Auxerre, a gap that confirms the final score was hardly an exaggeration of what actually happened.
What the preview said
Heading into the match, our preview projected a tight contest: 54% odds for Strasbourg, 25% for a draw and 21% for Auxerre, with expected goals of 1.89 for the home side and 1.11 for the visitors, a combined total of 3 goals. Reality ended up blowing past that forecast: the edge favoring the home side held up, but the final rout multiplied by a wide margin what was expected before kickoff.
In the standings, both teams arrived with 10 points from 9 games played, sitting in 12th and 13th place respectively, separated only by goal difference. The result gives Strasbourg a clear case for climbing the table, while Auxerre watch their goal difference, already negative before the match, sink even further after an afternoon to forget in Alsace.
