Getafe Erases Early Deficit, Routs Sevilla 3-1 in Six Second-Half Minutes
Sevilla took the lead on a Kike Salas header, but Getafe flipped the script in the second half with goals from Ünal, Satriano and Mangala, capitalizing on Manu Bueno's late red card.

Sevilla went ahead with a header in the 18th minute and comfortably managed that lead for roughly an hour at Estadio Coliseum. But Getafe turned up the pressure down the stretch, flipped the match in just six minutes, and ended up routing Sevilla 3-1, a Sevilla side that was reduced to ten men in stoppage time to boot.
The script looked written for the visitors. Kike Salas made it 0-1 in the 18th minute with a header from the middle of the box that found the top corner, off a corner kick delivered by Félix Correia. Sevilla controlled the ball more comfortably for long stretches of the match (finishing with 53 percent possession and 343 passes to Getafe's 298) and created scattered chances through Chidera Ejuke and Lucas Stassin, though none of them turned into a goal before halftime.
Getafe's response
Everything changed in the second half. In the 67th minute, Enes Ünal leveled the score with a right-footed finish into the center of the goal, set up by a Martín Satriano cross into the box. The tie didn't last long: six minutes later, in the 73rd minute, Satriano returned the favor to Ünal and also finished with his right foot to make it 2-1. That goal went up on the board after a VAR review, which confirmed it with no changes.
Getafe never let go of the match from there. In stoppage time, with Sevilla down to ten men after Manu Bueno's red card in the 90th minute, Orel Mangala sealed it in the 93rd minute with a right-footed shot that slipped in on the right side of the goal, assisted by Andrés García. Before that goal, Satriano himself had another clear chance from outside the box that narrowly missed.
By the numbers
The stats reflect a match that was even in volume but more effective for Getafe when it mattered most. Our own xG estimate generated during the match, calculated from shot locations, gives Getafe 1.626 against Sevilla's 0.731, a gap that backs up the home side's second-half punch.
| Stat | Getafe | Sevilla |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 47 | 53 |
| Shots | 11 | 12 |
| Shots on target | 5 | 4 |
| Corners | 2 | 2 |
| Passes | 298 | 343 |
| Fouls committed | 18 | 18 |
The preview we published ahead of the match split the odds about as evenly as possible: 32 percent for a Getafe win, 33 percent for a draw and 35 percent for a Sevilla win, with total expected goals of 2.18. The final result landed far from that balanced split: the team given the least favor on paper was the one that won clearly, and by a wider margin than that projection anticipated.
Where it leaves the standings
In the LaLiga table, this result leaves both clubs in the lower middle of the pack. Sevilla sits on 17 points from 11 matches played (5 wins, 2 draws and 4 losses), while Getafe has 12 points from 11 matches (3 wins, 3 draws and 5 losses). The gap between the two in the standings is 5 points, with Sevilla still ahead despite Sunday's loss.
The match leaves plenty to remember: the back-and-forth assists between Ünal and Satriano, who combined for Getafe's first two goals, and a closing stretch with Sevilla down a man that opened the floodgates. For Getafe, managed by José Bordalás, it's a comeback that snaps a recent rough patch; for Luis García's Sevilla, it's a lead that slipped away just when the match seemed under control.
