Guadalajara routs Atletico San Luis 3-0 at Estadio Libertad Financiera
The Chivas side put the match away in the opening nine minutes and moved up to 14 points in Liga MX.

It took just nine minutes for the outcome to be all but settled. Guadalajara walked away with all three points in a lopsided 0-3 win over Atletico San Luis at Estadio Libertad Financiera, with the story of the match written almost entirely before the clock hit the quarter-hour mark.
The opening blow did not even come from a Chivas player. In the 5th minute, after a Santiago Sandoval shot rattled off the post, the ball ended up in the net thanks to an own goal by Andres Sanchez. Four minutes later, Ricardo Marin doubled the lead with a low shot from the center of the box, set up by a header from Angel Sepulveda, making it 0-2, a scoreline that held through halftime.
Atletico San Luis did not sit back and pushed for a response: Rafa Llorente rattled the crossbar in the 7th minute and created several chances throughout the match, but lacked the finishing touch in the final third. Guadalajara, for its part, waited patiently and struck again as the match headed into its closing stages. In the 79th minute, Richard Ledezma, who had come on in the second half, curled a right-footed effort into the top corner off an assist from Marin, sealing the final 0-3.
Even numbers overall, decisive where it counted
Interestingly, the overall stats do not reflect such a lopsided result. Possession was split almost evenly and Atletico San Luis even had more total shots, though Guadalajara was sharper in the moments that mattered.
| Stat | Atletico San Luis | Guadalajara |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 49.9 | 50.1 |
| Shots | 10 | 7 |
| Shots on target | 4 | 3 |
| Corners | 3 | 2 |
| Passes | 557 | 564 |
| Fouls committed | 8 | 8 |
The xG generated in the match, an in-house estimate based on shot location, was also close: 0.881 for Atletico San Luis versus 1.073 for Guadalajara. That figure confirms the final score ended up being more one-sided than the flow of the game, shot for shot, suggested.
In fact, the projection we published ahead of the match pointed to a much tighter contest: we gave the home side a 28% chance of winning, 27% for a draw and 45% for an away win, with expected goals of 1.29 for Atletico San Luis and 1.66 for Guadalajara. The final result did tilt toward the favorite those numbers pointed to, though by a much wider margin than we anticipated.
What it means in the standings
In the Liga MX table, Guadalajara moved up to 14 points with a record of 4 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss in 7 matches, sitting just two points behind leaders Club America. Atletico San Luis, meanwhile, remained stuck on 6 points after 7 matchdays, with just 1 win, 3 draws and 3 losses, and a negative goal difference that grew worse with this rout. The 8-point gap between the two sides in the standings was mirrored on the field as well.
For Guadalajara, the win was built on the efficiency of Ricardo Marin, who scored one goal and set up two others, and on the impact of the substitutes: both Richard Ledezma and Efrain Alvarez came off the bench and left their mark on the final result. For Atletico San Luis, the match stands as another missed opportunity despite creating clear chances, including Salles-Lamonge's shot off the crossbar and Llorente's persistent attempts, none of which found their way past the opposing goalkeeper.
