Harry Kane signs new Bayern Munich contract through 2029

The English striker, with 156 goals in 161 appearances and the Ballon d'Or to his name, extends his contract with the Bavarian club.

Harry Kane signs new Bayern Munich contract through 2029

Three years ago, when Harry Kane left Tottenham for Munich, there was no shortage of doubters. Some said his time was running out, others said he'd never win anything major, still others argued that goals alone don't make a career without trophies. Today that story reads very differently: the English striker has just signed a new contract with Bayern Munich through 2029, and he's doing it as the reigning Ballon d'Or winner.

The Bavarian club confirmed the agreement this Thursday after several weeks of negotiations. And they announced it the way only Bayern can: with a video loaded with symbolism. "Three years ago he arrived with a dream. They questioned his decision, they doubted his legacy, but he never doubted himself. 156 goals and counting. He didn't just make history, he became part of it. But legends don't stop there, they aim for more," the Bayern message read.

The footage shows Kane in a suit, signing the new contract at a desk set up right on the pitch at the Allianz Arena, surrounded by commemorative jerseys and, next to him, the Ballon d'Or and the Gerd Muller Trophy he lifted last week at the France Football gala in London. It's a staging that makes clear just how much the club values locking down its goalscorer.

Kane had already hinted the deal was close before the Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, which Bayern won 2-0. "I'd say it's more a matter of days now. We've had good conversations over the weekend and today as well. I know I keep saying we're close, but now we're extremely close. At the end of the day, the details are just details in any contract," he had said at the time.

Once the deal was signed, the striker himself explained why staying was never really in question: "I feel at home at Bayern. I love the club, the fans and the city of Munich. We have a fantastic team and, in Vincent Kompany, a fantastic coach. It makes me proud to be part of this club. My whole family is very happy here, and I wanted to stay. Now I'm looking ahead and I want to win many more titles with this great club."

Numbers that back up the confidence

The tally of 156 goals in 161 games in Bayern colors is no accident: Kane finished as the Bundesliga's top scorer in each of the last three seasons. Along the way came something that had eluded him in London: trophies. With Bayern he's won two Bundesliga titles and a DFB-Pokal, and he's helped push the team into the Champions League semifinals twice.

Taken together, Kane's run in Germany explains why those early doubts now feel so distant. He arrived chasing what he'd never had, and with the new deal through 2029 now signed, the English striker has secured several more years to keep writing that story in Munich.
