Instituto blanks San Lorenzo at the Monumental with Cerato strike
Cerato scored in the 52nd minute to give the home side a win in a match of total control.

A cross-shot from Giuliano Cerato in the 52nd minute was enough for Instituto to take all three points off San Lorenzo at the Monumental Presidente Perón. 1-0 was the final score, though the run of play had signaled well before that this result had been brewing for a while.
Instituto came out looking for the goal from the opening whistle. Just two minutes in, Fernando Alarcón had already given a warning with a header that drifted just wide, and from there the home side laid siege to San Lorenzo's goal: shots from Diego Sosa, Gustavo Abregú, Jeremías Lázaro, and corner after corner. In total, Instituto forced 11 corner kicks, most of them in the first half, and still the goal would not come. San Lorenzo, more organized than threatening, defended patiently and looked for its opening through Rodrigo Auzmendi, who tried his luck a couple of times from outside the box without finding the target.
The first half ended level on the scoreboard but lopsided in terms of play: Instituto had struck the crossbar through Matías Tissera and squandered clear chances, while San Lorenzo had barely threatened. It felt like Instituto's goal was only a matter of time, and so it proved. Early in the second half came the decisive sequence: Matías Gallardo set up Cerato, who finished with his right foot from the center of the box to make it 1-0.
With the lead in hand, Instituto did not ease off. Nicolás Guerra, on as a substitute, tested the visiting goalkeeper with a shot from inside the box, and Facundo Suárez, also introduced in the second half, had two clear chances late on that he could not convert. San Lorenzo, for its part, turned to its bench, bringing on Martín Río, Alan Salas and Facundo Gulli in search of a response, and got its best chance of the second half from an Auzmendi header that grazed the crossbar in the 81st minute. It was not enough: the match stretched into five minutes of stoppage time, but the scoreline held.
The numbers back up the dominance
The stats support what was seen on the field: Instituto was clearly superior in attacking output, even as it ceded some ground in possession.

| Shots | 19 | 5 |

The 19 shots to San Lorenzo's mere 5, combined with the 11 corners in the home side's favor, paint a picture of near-constant siege. Our post-match xG estimate, calculated from shot locations, gives Instituto 2.45 expected goals against just 0.76 for San Lorenzo, a gap that confirms the 1-0 scoreline actually undersold what was produced on the pitch.
Before kickoff, our projection had split the odds fairly evenly: 33% for Instituto, 39% for a draw and 28% for San Lorenzo, with a total expected goals figure of just 1.60. What happened on the field was far more one-sided than that forecast suggested: Instituto not only won but did so by generating far more than expected, while San Lorenzo barely troubled the opposing goal.
What it means in the standings
The result carries weight in Group A: Instituto reached 16 points from 7 matches played, with a record of 5 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss, and holds onto first place. San Lorenzo, meanwhile, sits on 7 points from the same number of matches, with 2 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses, a gap of 9 points behind today's opponent. It was a match controlled from start to finish by Instituto, which waited until the second half to put on the scoreboard what it had already been showing since the first minute.
