Inter host Napoli at San Siro in Serie A's third round
The defending champions arrive unbeaten, but Napoli are looking to bounce back after a loss to Como.
Two wins in two games, and already the first real test is here. Inter, the reigning champions, host Napoli at the Giuseppe Meazza for matchday three of the 2026-27 Serie A season, and this time the opponent isn't one to take lightly.
So far, the schedule has been kind to the Milan side: a 4-1 rout of Monza to open the season and a tight 1-0 win over Cagliari after that. Two victories that leave a good feeling, but that still don't say much about the team's real level. Napoli, who arrive needing a response, are about to reveal a lot more.
Napoli haven't had their best week. After opening with a solid 2-0 win over Genoa, they ran into a defeat that stung: 2-1 against Como. Traveling to Milan and coming away with a positive result would be a statement, and the perfect way to shake off that loss and remind the league they're still contenders.
The names who could decide it
For Inter, the focus is on the usual suspects: Lautaro Martinez as the attacking reference, Pio Esposito gaining prominence up front, and Nicolo Barella providing that tireless engine in midfield. On the other side, Napoli lean on two players of a different caliber: Kevin De Bruyne, still the metronome capable of changing a game with a single pass, and Rasmus Hojlund, who will look to keep adding goals as the focal point up top.
Recent history between the two sides offers no clear favorite. The last meeting in Milan ended 2-2, a back and forth affair, and before that it was Napoli who took all three points with a 3-1 win. It's a record that shows that when these two meet, the result tends to stay open until the very end.
Can the champions confirm they mean business, or can Napoli land the blow they need to get back on track? That's the beauty of this third round: for the first time this season, neither side has the game figured out in advance.
The match kicks off Saturday, with times of 1:00 p.m. for Argentina and Uruguay, 12:00 p.m. for Chile, and 11:00 a.m. for Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The broadcast will be available through the Premium plan on Disney+.
