Lamine Yamal arrives at the Clasico with 10 goals, 10 assists and an even record against Real Madrid
The Barcelona winger plays his tenth Clasico one day before the Ballon d'Or gala, where he competes with Mbappe.
Ten goals and ten assists so far this season. That number alone says plenty about what Lamine Yamal means to Hansi Flick's Barcelona. At 19 years old, the winger arrives at Sunday's Clasico on October 25 at Camp Nou as the only player this season to have reached that double digit mark, which sums up why it feels like something can happen every time he touches the ball.
Barcelona comes into the match after a solid start to the LaLiga season, though with a recent blemish: the team's first loss of the campaign, against PSG. In that match, Yamal had a mixed night: he made a mistake that led to an own goal, but he also scored one of his trademark goals, the kind only he seems able to produce.
An even record against the eternal rival
This Clasico will be nothing less than the tenth of his career against Real Madrid. The balance so far is tight: five wins and four losses, with three goals and two assists to his personal tally. He missed the last meeting, in May, due to a muscle injury that also affected his preparation for the 2026 World Cup.
There are memories of every kind in that history. On October 26, 2024, he scored in the 4-0 rout at the Santiago Bernabeu, and on May 11, 2025, he scored again in the 4-3 win for Flick's side, a match in which Raphinha stood out with a brace. But it wasn't all positive: on October 26, 2025, came a 2-1 loss at the Bernabeu, in a Clasico that had heated up before kickoff over comments he made on the Kings League show Chup Chup, where he had said the Madrid club "always robs." That night, amid constant jeers from the home fans, Yamal couldn't show his best form.
Where he has felt comfortable is in finals: he played in the last two Spanish Super Cups that Barcelona won against Real Madrid, 5-2 in 2025 and 3-2 in 2026.
Ballon d'Or just around the corner
The match also carries an extra layer of intrigue: it's being played just one day before the 2026 Ballon d'Or gala, set for Monday, October 26, in London. Once again, the names generating the most buzz for soccer's top individual prize will be there, Yamal and Kylian Mbappe, each looking to make a mark at Camp Nou right before that event.
The winger's current form backs it up. In the 5-2 win over Betis, he opened the scoring with one of his signature individual plays: tight space, defenders eliminated one by one, and a finish with his left foot. Days later, in Paris, even though the team fell 4-2 to PSG, it was his goal that made it 2-2 at the time.
Real Madrid knows the danger lies there and will look to close down his space so he can't receive the ball with time to run at defenders, which is exactly where he hurts opponents most. It will also be his first head to head as a direct opponent against his national team teammate, Marc Cucurella. For Barcelona, the recipe involves supporting him well: teammates' movement, combinations down the right side and quick switches of play so he isn't left alone against multiple defenders. Because if there's one thing Yamal knows how to do, it's break through any barrier, and a stage like this, with the soccer world watching, seems like exactly the one he's looking for.
