Lamine Yamal tops Mbappe and Haaland as youngest to reach 50 goals in Europe's top five leagues

A rocket into the top corner, and to close out the party, a placed finish already in the 90th minute. With those two goals against Rayo Vallecano, Lamine Yamal did more than help seal a comfortable 5-2 win for Barcelona: he also wrote himself into a separate chapter of European soccer history.

The Catalan winger reached 51 goals in the Barcelona shirt across all competitions, but the number that really matters is different: at 19 years and 49 days old, he became the youngest player in the history of Europe's top five leagues (LaLiga, the Premier League, Ligue 1, Serie A and the Bundesliga) to reach the 50-goal mark. Barcelona itself confirmed the milestone after the match, also noting that Lamine is the youngest player in club history to reach that goal tally.

To grasp what this means, it's enough to look at who he's left behind. Neither Kylian Mbappe nor Erling Haaland, two of the most decisive forwards of the last decade, got there as fast. The Frenchman needed until he was 19 years and 241 days old to score his 50th goal, while the Norwegian got there at 20 years and 196 days old. Lamine beats them by nearly half a year and by more than a year, respectively, and that's against two players who arrived at the elite level making a difference from a very young age.

A role that's no longer just about assists

For much of his emergence in the first team, Lamine was associated more with creation than with finishing: dribbles, passes into space, imbalance out wide. This season's numbers, though, show a player who also shows up hungry for goals, capable of settling a tight match like the one against Rayo with two finishes of very different quality: power on the first, placement on the second.

What stands out is that this scoring growth hasn't taken anything away from his influence on the buildup. He's still the player who looks for the ball in tough moments, the one who starts plays from his flank, and the one who, when the scoreline tightens, ends up showing up in the opponent's box. That combination, creation plus finishing, is exactly what puts him in the conversation with the best young wingers the continent has produced in recent seasons.

The milestone also arrives at a moment when Lamine still has room for comparison with players who, at his age, were already global benchmarks. Surpassing Mbappe and Haaland in this statistic doesn't automatically make him better than them, but it does confirm that his growth curve, goal scoring included, is ahead of that of almost any player of his generation.
