Liga MX Slams Shut Summer Window in Week Eight With a Flurry of Last-Minute Signings

The clock read 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11 when the Liga MX summer transfer window slammed shut, and at that very moment, week eight of the Apertura 2026 was already kicking off. That's how tight things got. Several clubs held their moves until the very end, even though the tournament had already gone through seven matchdays, and the result is that a handful of teams will take the field with new faces who didn't even get a full preseason with their new squads.

The window had opened on July 2 at 8:00 a.m., and after plenty of back and forth, it wrapped up with notable moves at no fewer than five clubs. America was, without question, the club that made the most noise, but it wasn't alone.

America Closed With Three Signings

The Eagles had gotten a jump on things in the second-to-last week of the window with the arrival of Carlos Alvarez, an attacking midfielder who came over from Levante of Spain to join Guillermo Almada's project. But the club didn't stop there. In the final days it wrapped up two more deals: Ivan Tona, a defensive midfielder who arrived from Tijuana, and Santiago Ramos, a defender who came in from Bahia in Brazil to cover for the loss of Sebastian Caceres in the back line.

Cruz Azul, Tigres, Atlas and Santos Also Made Moves

At Cruz Azul, the story had a different wrinkle: Joel Huiqui had been asking for a right back since the window opened, and while the front office worked on it, the coach had to make do at that spot with Jeremy Marquez and Rogelio Gonzalez. The fix arrived less than two weeks before the deadline, with the signing of Alan Mozo to bolster the reigning champions.

Tigres, for its part, answered a longstanding request from Victor Manuel Vucetich: a center forward. The front office delivered for the 'Rey Midas' with two signings in the final week: Emiliano Gomez, who came from Puebla, and Guillermo Martinez, who arrived from Pumas.

Atlas was, by the numbers, the club that shuffled the most pieces throughout the entire window, and it kept at it right up to the final hours. The arrival of Kevin Zenon from Boca Juniors was followed, in the closing days, by the signing of Elias Montiel, regarded as one of the standout products of Pachuca's youth academy.

Santos, currently sitting third from bottom in the overall standings, also used the final week to strengthen its roster with Facundo Caseres, a midfielder arriving from Gil Vicente of Portugal.

With the window now closed, the lingering question is how long it will take these new arrivals to settle into a tournament that waits for no one. Eight matchdays have already gone by, and Liga MX rolls on, now with different rosters than the ones that kicked off the Apertura 2026.
