Hugo Lloris Notches 11th Clean Sheet of the Season as LAFC Play to Scoreless Draw with D.C. United

Some goalkeepers win a match with a single save, and Hugo Lloris did it again. The Frenchman reached his 11th clean sheet of the season, the best mark in all of MLS, in a 0-0 draw between Los Angeles FC and D.C. United played in the nation's capital.

The number alone says plenty: nobody in the league has shut the door as many times as Lloris has in 2024. But what stands out most isn't the tally itself, it's the timing. LAFC (10-7-6) is stuck in a five-match winless streak, a slump that contrasts sharply with the team's earlier form, when it strung together three straight wins with a commanding aggregate score of 10-1. From that scorching start to this offensive lull is a long way to fall: across these five winless games, LAFC has managed just two goals.

So if the Los Angeles side is still picking up points, it's largely thanks to its goalkeeper. Lloris closed out the night with three saves, two of which proved decisive in keeping the scoreline blank. In the 48th minute, he stretched to tip a first-time effort from Jackson Hopkins over the crossbar from the middle of the box, a shot that could easily have found the net had it traveled on a slightly different path. Then, in the 63rd minute, he answered with a spectacular flying stop to deny a low shot from Louis Munteanu struck from just outside the box.

A United side that also needs a spark

On the other side, D.C. United (5-7-10) also couldn't find a way to break the deadlock and has now gone five straight matches without a win. Sean Johnson, between the posts for the home side, came up with a notable save during the match, though the capital club failed to generate the volume of chances it needed to claim all three points at home.

The result leaves both teams in a similar spot: in need of a win to snap their respective skids. For LAFC, the challenge is rediscovering the scoring touch it showed just weeks ago, when the team looked unstoppable. For D.C. United, the task is making better use of home advantage and turning solid defensive work into positive results. In the meantime, the season keeps confirming something that no longer surprises anyone in MLS: with Lloris in goal, LAFC always has a solid foundation, even when the goals aren't coming.
