Libertadores 2026 Quarterfinals Kick Off This Week: Fluminense, Palmeiras, Estudiantes and Independiente del Valle Lead the Way
Fluminense hosts Platense in the first leg, while Palmeiras takes on LDU and Estudiantes travels to face Corinthians.
The quarterfinal matchups are set, and the first legs kick off this week with four ties that promise plenty of damage before the return matches. The CONMEBOL Libertadores 2026 is entering its decisive stretch, and as always, you can catch it live on Disney+ Premium Plan, with coverage from ESPN.
First up will be Fluminense, hosting Platense on Tuesday, the 8th, starting at 6:45 p.m. It's a matchup between a Brazilian powerhouse well used to fighting at this stage of the competition and an Argentine side that arrives still dreaming of pulling off an upset.
Wednesday, the 9th brings a doubleheader. At 6:45 p.m., Palmeiras opens its series against LDU Quito, the Ecuadorian club that knows what it takes to lift this trophy and isn't intimidated by anyone, especially not at this stage of the tournament. Later, at 9:00 p.m., it's Estudiantes de La Plata against Corinthians, a matchup steeped in history between two clubs that know all too well what it means to wear this jersey in April.
Closing out the first-leg round, on Thursday, the 10th at 9:00 p.m., Independiente del Valle will host Flamengo, perhaps the most attractive matchup of the round given Flamengo's offensive firepower and the solidity the Ecuadorian side usually shows on its own turf.
Four ties, one shared goal
What do these four matchups have in common? None of them will be decided in the first leg. Recent Libertadores history shows these games tend to be played cautiously, with teams protecting the result to avoid facing trouble in the return leg. Even so, none of the eight clubs can afford to relax: a slip-up at home could leave a team against the ropes before the rematch.
Logic suggests the home sides will look to build a cushion that lets them play with room to spare in the second leg, but this tournament never runs short on surprises. Platense, LDU and Independiente del Valle arrive with fewer trophies than their opponents this round, but in South American soccer, that has never guaranteed anything.
With these four matches, the race toward the semifinals officially begins. The first legs will set the stage; the return matches, a week from now, will decide who keeps dreaming of La Gloria Eterna.
