Messi reaches 94 goals to become Inter Miami's all-time leading scorer
The Argentine surpassed Leonardo Campana and continues to show his class in MLS.
It's the same scene all over again: Messi drops into a pocket of space, finishes with that left foot we all know by heart, and the scoreboard in Fort Lauderdale moves once more. Nothing new under the Florida sun, except for one detail that's now pure club history: the Argentine has reached 94 goals in an Inter Miami shirt and has, for some time now, been the franchise's all-time leading scorer, ahead of Leonardo Campana.
To think it all started in mid-2023, when Messi joined a club that hadn't won anything of note up to that point. It took just a few weeks for the whole of MLS to realize what it was dealing with. In that year's Leagues Cup, his first tournament in pink, he scored 10 goals in 7 appearances and delivered Inter Miami's first-ever trophy. It was a debut almost out of another sport, the kind that resets expectations overnight.
A scorer who doesn't discriminate between competitions
What stands out isn't just the total number, but the consistency. After that dream debut, Messi never slowed down: he kept piling up goals in MLS and also left his mark in the Concacaf Champions Cup. In fact, the only competition where he hasn't scored yet is the US Open Cup, though the explanation there is simple: he's played just one match in that tournament, so there hasn't been much room to find the net.
Surpassing Campana as the club's offensive benchmark carries its own weight, regardless of who the comparison is with. Campana had been, before Messi's arrival, one of the key pieces in the attack of an Inter Miami side that was still finding its feet as an organization. The fact that a player who arrived midway through his career, already 36 years old with a long history in Europe behind him, ends up rewriting the record books of a young MLS club says a lot about the level he's still playing at.
Messi himself has spoken more than once about how he feels playing in the United States and the warmth he's received from everyone around Inter Miami:
I'm very happy and grateful for how I've been treated since I arrived, I'm enjoying this new challenge a lot.Lionel Messi
The question that lingers is how far this streak can stretch. With 94 goals and the title of the club's all-time top scorer already secured, what's left is simply to watch how much higher that number can climb as Inter Miami tries to establish itself as a serious contender in MLS and in the international competitions ahead.
