Peñarol wraps up women's Clausura with perfect record, thrashes San Jacinto 9-0

Nine matchdays, nine wins, and a lopsided finale to close the chapter in style. Peñarol was crowned champion of the 2026 Torneo Clausura in Uruguayan women's soccer after crushing San Jacinto 9-0 this Sunday at Campeón del Siglo stadium, on the tournament's final matchday.

The number that best sums up the Carboneras' campaign is simple: a perfect record. They won all nine matches they played, scored 63 goals, and conceded just five in the entire competition. That record speaks to a team that left no room for doubt on any given matchday, and one that chose to sign off with one of its most emphatic wins, right when the title was already locked up.

While Peñarol celebrated at home, Nacional also made its mark the Saturday before. The tricolores routed Wanderers 6-0 behind a particularly inspired outing from Julieta Ladós, who scored twice, in the 4th and 72nd minutes. Yamila Dornelles added a goal in the 22nd minute, Sinoxolo Cesane in the 35th, Agostina Marcora in the 74th, and Oriana Fontán in the 87th, an offensive showcase that confirms the team that already claimed the Apertura is also arriving in strong form for what's next.

What's next: Nacional and Peñarol go head to head

These results set up the matchup everyone was waiting for. Nacional, the Apertura champion, and Peñarol, now the Clausura champion, will meet in a final to decide who takes Phase 1 of the 2026 Uruguayan Championship. But this is only the beginning. After that final comes Phase 2, which will be played with a Championship Series and an Honor Series, both in a single round robin.
