PSG Routs Villarreal 6-0, Como Hangs 9 on Lens, and Lamine Yamal Outdoes Mbappé Again in Champions League Matchday 4
Amid lopsided scorelines, Real Madrid and Barcelona remain unbeaten while Manchester United completes a stunning comeback and Liverpool suffers its worst defensive stretch in the competition.

Matchday 4 of the Champions League produced scorelines that not even the most optimistic fans saw coming. Paris Saint-Germain thrashed Villarreal 6-0 to move into first place, while Como, in its competition debut, put on a 9-1 exhibition against Lens that catapulted it into fourth. As if that weren't enough, a Mauritanian debutant made history, a Spanish teenager broke a record that used to belong to Mbappé, and Manchester United rose from the dead at Old Trafford.
Let's start with the unbeaten sides. Real Madrid remains, alongside PSG, one of only two teams with a perfect record, but this time it came at a cost: a 3-2 win on the road against AEK Athens, sealed by a Fede Valverde strike from 28.5 yards, the longest goal of his career in the competition and Madrid's ninth decisive goal scored in the 90th minute or later in Champions League history, more than any other club. In fact, Los Blancos became only the second team to score late winners in two away matches in the same edition, something Atletico also managed in 2021-22. In that same game, AEK forward Aboubakary Koita became the first Mauritanian ever to score in the Champions League.
Mbappe, for his part, remains unstoppable: he reached 100 goal contributions in the Champions League (74 goals and 26 assists) in just 102 appearances, a mark only Messi reached faster. He has now scored in six straight matches with Real Madrid, matching his own best streak. Jude Bellingham wasn't far behind either, netting his tenth goal for the club in the continental competition, more than every English player who has ever worn the Real Madrid shirt combined.
Lamine Yamal Makes History Again
At Camp Nou, Barcelona delivered a commanding 3-0 win over Aston Villa, and the night belonged to one man: Lamine Yamal scored his 14th Champions League goal at just 19 years old, the highest total ever reached by a teenager in the competition, surpassing Mbappe himself. On top of that, the Catalan club snapped an 18-match streak without a clean sheet, something it hadn't managed since April 2025. Raphinha also made noise, scoring his seventh Champions League brace to tie Vinicius as the second Brazilian with the most braces in the competition, behind only Neymar, and now has 23 goals with the club, trailing only Messi and Suarez. For Aston Villa, it was a night to forget, suffering one of its heaviest defeats in major European competition.
Not everything went Spain's way, though. Atletico Madrid fell 0-2 to Bayern Munich and Betis lost 1-2 to Borussia Dortmund, two setbacks that gave the Bundesliga the edge over LaLiga on the night.
United Comes Back from the Dead, Roma Suffers Again
Manchester United pulled off the comeback of the night: down by two goals, the Red Devils came back to win 3-2 against Roma, their fourth win in Champions League history after trailing by two goals, a feat only Real Madrid had also achieved. United hadn't done it since October 2021 against Atalanta. Matheus Cunha was decisive, with 4 goals and 2 assists so far this season, and Bruno Fernandes reached 44 penalties converted out of 50 attempted for the club. On the other side, Roma suffered another strange blow: it became the first team in European Cup history to lose two matches in the same season after leading by more than a goal at some point in each.
Liverpool, meanwhile, lost 2-3 to Fenerbahce and has now conceded 10 goals in four matches, the worst defensive record in club history at this stage of a Champions League league phase. England's Mason Greenwood scored directly from a free kick, something that hadn't happened to an English team since Messi's goal in 2019, and Alexander Isak scored just two minutes and 46 seconds after coming on as a substitute, his first goal in ten appearances for the club in the competition.
In Como's goal-filled celebration, Greece's Tasos Douvikas scored a hat trick and became only the third player from his country to do so in the Champions League. He also scored in all four of his team's league-phase matches, something only Alessandro Del Piero had done before, with Juventus in 1995-96. His teammate Nico Paz now has 8 goal contributions this season, the most in the competition.
Finally, PSG didn't just win big: it became the first team to score four or more goals in four consecutive Champions League matches and to reach 20 goals in its first four matches of a single edition. What's more, its start against Villarreal was the fastest in tournament history to reach four goals, doing so in just 16 minutes and 2 seconds.
