PSG labors but rallies past Le Mans, wins 3-1 at Parc des Princes
After an early Beraldo penalty and a surprise Le Mans equalizer to start the second half, PSG responded with goals from Kvaratskhelia and Akliouche to seal a 3-1 win in Ligue 1.

The Parc des Princes saw a little bit of everything before Paris Saint-Germain finally closed out the job: a converted penalty, a surprise Le Mans equalizer right after the break, and a response that took just fourteen minutes and ended in a 3-1 final. The result leaves the Parisians with all three points in Ligue 1, though the path there had more twists than the final scoreline suggests.
PSG took control from the opening whistle, holding long spells of possession and leaning heavily on the right flank through Hakimi, who tested the Le Mans defense several times without success. The first big moment came in the 15th minute, when VAR reviewed a handball inside the box by Harold Voyer and awarded a penalty. Beraldo made no mistake from the spot in the 18th minute, slotting it in off his left foot to the keeper's right for the 1-0.
With the lead in hand and the ball almost entirely at its feet (possession finished 72.6 percent to 27.4 percent in the home side's favor), PSG looked to be cruising toward halftime without any trouble, and the 1-0 scoreline held at the break despite chances for Godts, Akliouche and Ferran Torres.
Le Mans pushes back and levels it
The second half opened with a jolt nobody saw coming at the Parc des Princes. In the 53rd minute, Louis Mafouta connected with a cross from Lucas Calodat and finished left-footed through the middle of the goal for the 1-1, a goal that was confirmed after a VAR review. Suddenly, a match that had looked settled was wide open again.
Luis Enrique reacted almost immediately from the bench: between the 57th and 58th minutes he sent on Warren Zaire-Emery, Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha and Kvaratskhelia, and the fresh legs made an instant difference. Just two minutes after stepping onto the field, Kvaratskhelia pounced on a loose ball from a free kick and finished with his right foot from close range to restore PSG's lead in the 60th minute. Seven minutes later, Maghnes Akliouche, set up by Zaire-Emery, finished left-footed from the right side of the box to make it 3-1 in the 67th minute, the goal that put the match to bed.
The closing stretch had one odd twist: in the 91st minute, a penalty conceded by Rayan Bamba on Lucas Hernandez was missed by Desire Doue, and deep into stoppage time VAR reviewed and waved off another potential penalty for PSG. Neither incident changed the outcome.
The numbers behind the dominance
The stats make clear just how lopsided the playing time was between the two sides, though Le Mans created more than its final result suggests.
| Stat | Paris Saint-Germain | Le Mans |
|---|---|---|
| Possession (%) | 72.6 | 27.4 |
| Shots | 22 | 11 |
| Shots on target | 8 | 3 |
| Big chances | 4 | 4 |
| Corners | 4 | 4 |
| Passes | 708 | 256 |
| Fouls committed | 3 | 17 |
According to our own estimate calculated from the match's shot data, PSG generated 4.15 expected goals compared to 2.089 for Le Mans, a figure that confirms the visitors created more than their lone goal would indicate.
Before kickoff, our projection gave PSG an 86% chance of winning, an 11% chance of a draw, and just 3% for a Le Mans victory, with an expected score of 3.14 goals for the home side and 0.61 for Le Mans. The final result, 3-1, landed fairly close to that forecast, even if the route there passed through a temporary equalizer the preview hadn't accounted for.
In the standings, PSG holds fifth place with 11 points from 6 matches played, 5 points ahead of Le Mans, who sit 12th with 6 points following this result. The win keeps PSG in the hunt near the top of the table, while Le Mans still needs more three-point results to pull away from the lower half of the standings.
